All this talk about the green-out (which, as much as I would love, will never happen) plus having actually been to the game last week has me wondering: how intimidating of a place is Notre Dame to play. I was sitting pretty high up, so it was tough to get a sense for what the noise level would have been like at field level, but I do have a few observations:
1) NDs student section is as active and loud as any, but it is small. As far as I could tell, it only really comes into play when the other team's offense has the ball inside the twenty on that side of the field.
2) A lot of fans don't cheer. They're too old and "dignified".
3) The fans who do cheer tend to scream their faces off.
4) The bands are very close to the field and make a lot of noise.
5) The stadium doesn't have a lip or anything at the top that would keep noise in, not sure how much this matters since everybody's yelling towards the field anyways.
So, my question is for people who have been to games at both ND and other major college venues (Big House, Penn/Ohio State, Alabama): does the noise level at Notre Dame compare?
