I am just currious cuz I go to college and I never really had to study for test but now I do! I currently use the notecard method and take a lot of notes but I was just wondering how my fellow domers studied. I'd appreciate any suggestions! Go Irish beat Syracuse! I'm skipping school to watch it! I'm such a rebel!

smoke a joint then study while you are high. as long as your are high while taking the test you should be okay.

Skipping classess is the worst thing you can do ( for real)!

JK about the joint.

Seriously what i did when i was a freshman was study the days notes and text until i was able to remember everything from the class that day. Then the next day do the same thing plus the info the day before. So on an so on. Initially you end up studying your ass of all day. But by the end of the year you have got a good system down and you have to spend less and less time on the info you got in the beginning of the semester because you can recall it easily. you just have to refresh the synapses in your brain as you go.

This worked for me taking 18 hours of science classes for four years. I graduated with a 4.1 with a Degree in Marine Biology and a minor in environmental studies.. i dont know how it would be for something like business ethics or legal bar type stuff.

It is simple, keep reading the stuff until you understand it. notecards are a great tool.
If it is math, chemistry, accounting, finance stuff-work the problems inside and out until you can see the reasoning behind it.
Also, take copious notes in class!

Stoney,

Of course, taking notes in class assumes he doesn't skip...

The key is to stay on top of the work. Thirty pages of reading in a text one night is better than 300 the day before a bluebook exam or a final. If you stay on top of your assignments, you will retain more of what is discussed in class, and studying for exams will be review rather than learning.

yeah i cut loose around break too. TD is right though it basically comes down to doing what it takes to manage all that info and be able to recall it. My path was basically what worked for me. Of course i was memorizing latin names of all kinds of species of animals and conceputalizations of molecular actions and other biological and chemical operations, so that may not work for you in your field of study.

depends on what youre trying to study. Notecard will work for vocab and chronological dates and stuff...if youre studying geography like a map (we had to write out all the african countries this year on a map) then print out 10 blank copies and write in the countries until you know them. I forget what theyre called by i think its pneumonics help also

3 words...CHEAT CHEAT CHEAT!

Seriously, I'd have had higher than a 2.9 if I had cheated.

Me, as a current H.S. student, I find that reading the notes always works... ten minutes before the test starts

Another piece of advice: find folks who know what they are doing in class, and get in their hip pocket. Study groups help a lot.

At the end of the day, just about everyone at ND is smart, and had a good track record in HS. What separates Deans List/Summa Cum Laude graduates from 2.8s is the ability to organize and use their non-classroom time effectively.

exactly what domer said.

i currently use the notecard method, but it doesnt help if you study the night before. i dont know what college you go to but, i tranferred from a 2-year college to OU. my previous college i didnt have to study to make A's. but ever since i enrolled to boOU (i know but its good and cheap) it like taking AP courses in high school. i know it sucks but gradually studying till you get to the test have helped me this semester.

this might sound like a nerd but, study groups work for me. you need to study with someone smarter than you also, bea=cause after you become friends then you can

This seems like a great way to do it. Right now I'm more of a flashcard kind of guy.

Throughout undergrad and law school, I would only allow myself to go to bed once I had done the reading for the next day's classes. As somebody else pointed out, as long as you stay current on your reading, you get much more out of each class, and tests are much easier to prepare for at the end. Best of luck!

I was one of those kids in HS who just got A's without trying so College was a bit of a rude awakening... but after a few bad semesters I just got in a scholar mode... since then it's a challenge I look forward to, I just do the work, simple as that... I've been 4.0 dean's list student my entire time at La Verne (a high level private school) and will grad with honors in a year... all I can say is look at it as something fun and interesting... worked for me

C2K,

What are you studying? I know you're in FYS right now, but what are you thinking in terms of major?

that will change in college real quick. When you have two tests all semester try doing that. I gaurantee you will fail both of them.

Exactly. I found out the hard way in my first year of college. There is much more critical thinking than you could ever imagine. Not just memorizing.
