How can ND improve going forward?

This is absolutely correct and also the reason why ND will not realistically compete for a NC anytime soon. Big time coaches will not come to ND knowing that they are handicapped by a reduced recruiting pool and they are certainly more interested in winning football games versus graduating players.

Anyway, back to the original question, ND can make pretty much immediate improvement by allocating more time to the weight room and film study versus the classroom and library.
Doubt that will happen, but it remains to be seen

Give Kelly a year. Trust me. 2015 is going to be great. If not we go another direction. This year was an anomaly.

Really ? How so ?

Addazio? just a gut feeling. While he has improved BC and Temple I remember how much talent he wasted at Florida. I like his style but I don't know if he's ND quality. Kelly is a top ten coach but needs to realize that his dream and the reality of the program aren't identical.

And we need a 240 pound back who can get us one yard when we need it insteading to have to throw for it.

It wouldn't matter. We could have the most bruising downhill runner ever, and Kelly would either 1.) have him take the handoff from a shotgun formation, thus slowing him down immediately or 2.) run a QB draw even though it's been notoriously unreliable with weak blocking or 3.) throw the ball.

There were so many times when I really think that running out of the pistol or with Golson under center would have worked really well. We have powerful running backs, let them run downhill.

Couldn't agree more, we have the backs just need to refurbish the system to make it work. I also believe that the pistol would be a great way to get the running game going. With MZ, TF, and GB could you imagine how many rushing yards we could get a game/season?
