He's saying that Monk started the 'we want our football program to be like Vanderbilt and Stanford instead of being Notre Dame'.

Well that is just false.

Not that Monk is dumb but that was the mindset.

People do not seem to understand that ND has literally no interest in being like other schools because they simply do not need to be like other schools.

Not many schools have a BILLION dollar endowment, certainly not schools we play in the CFP, where they may not even break even fiscally for the year if they have a bad year. Hence why the rush for super-conferences, so that schools that do not perform at the level of Alabama or Clemson can still make some money from losing ten games per year.

Excuse me, $13B endowment. As far as I know, it's the second-largest in the FBS after Stanford. It's possible a few megasystems might be bigger, but the $/student would be very different.

Its annoying when people count the whole 'system." When you say I went to Minnesota, no one would think you mean Minnesota-Duluth lol

The more time that goes on I'm becoming less and less enthused about this game. I don't foresee this going even bad at all.... It's going to be program damaging

I say Ian with the rollout right, chased out of bounds for a loss of 2. We'll try to give a different look to Alabama.

It’s going to be ugly but I don’t think it’ll be “program damaging”. One of the big misconceptions about recruiting is that kids take a program’s wins/losses as serious as we fans do.

Tommy needs to be like “opposite George” from a Seinfeld opposite. Whatever Tommy is compelled to call...do the opposite. Hell, run on every play for the first series.

Need to run and bleed clock. Roll the pocket out for easy dink and dunks because Book is lost in the pocket in the face of a monster pass rush. Bleeeeed clock keep bama offence off the field.

The frustrating thing about Book is when he gets out of the pocket (except when running the ball) he doesn’t seem to find th open guy. Many times when he does find the open guy, he throws an inaccurate pass. I’d be interested to see his stats throwing/running out of bounds for a loss when he is out of the pocket. If he made more plays we’d have a different team.

You can’t chalk it all up on one play to Avery Davis... His receivers are also responsible for being active in the scramble drill once he runs out of the pocket.
Book has actually been pretty good this year running and throwing out of the pocket so I’m perplexed as to why one game against a Clemson team fighting for its playoff birth got us off rhythm a few too many times has some of us using the “always “ word again

I’ve rewatched the ACC champ game a few times and watched the SEC champ game. First 2 plays of ACC champ game Clemson played 7 or 8 in the box 1 high safety. We ran twice a for 4 yards? 3rd and 7 they played Nickel, we picked it up but my thought is ok why can’t we check out of a run play when there are 8 in the box and 1 high safety? Just seems stubborn to me.

The only hope I have for this game is that every single person I’ve seen in person, on the television and on the internet thinks we lose by 30+

I wear my Rudy jacket everywhere.. I’ve been getting comments since the Clemson game about how we’re going to get destroyed..

In 2013, analysts and fans were talking about how NDs defense was ranked high in all these different categories etc.. They said we could stop Bama’s run game.. lol

I haven’t seen one person give props to this years defense that is infinitely more talented and deep.

I don’t know what happened in the ACC championship.. maybe a combination of a Clark Lea letdown and facing Trevor Lawrence? But it didn’t seem representative of what this defense is really capable of.

Mac Jones won’t running around back there.. if he stays in the pocket too long we can get to him.

I’m not saying we win.. But the overwhelmingly negative response to a team that has played incredible most of the year has me thinking it’s going to be alot closer than most think.

I want a street fight. I pray we can rattle Jones. That's the only way to stop them.

There’s just too much cockiness coming from all the ND haters.. They didn’t seem mentally prepared for Trevor..

Regardless of Lea’s departure both him and the players should be able to realize what’s at stake here.

I’m not calling for intentional injury, but ND needs to knock Jones out of the game or at least hit him hard enough to give him pause. If that means a personal foul so be it. Again, don’t want the kid to be injured...but he needs to be knocked around or he’ll just sit back and throw 50 yard dimes to wide open WR

I think in the post-season all the analysts will land on one main trigger to why ND regressed or couldn’t hold up against the elite....the loss of Patterson. The OL performs as a unit and they lost a key cog. His replacement was adequate vs lesser competition but now he’s out with injury. Expecting the 3rd string center to pick up where Patterson left off is insane. Lugg will hopefully be an elite tackle next year but you cant be mad at the kid for struggling at his 3rd best position.

Venables game plan in the first match up was to pinch the DEs to keep Book in the pocket while the DTs/LBs eventually broke through the front of the pocket. It didn’t work b/c ND had Banks/Patterson/Kraemer as a united front (w/ help from Kyren). His plan worked perfectly in the 2nd matchup b/c he had Skalski & Davis back and ND lost Patterson and his backup. Taking candy from a baby...six sacks. ND isn’t fixing that in a week and a half.

The good news is that ND should have a healthier interior, with Correll back. He's not Patterson, but he's a lot better than Lugg at that spot. Kraemer should also be healthier.

Not to mention, Alabama has talent, but they don't quite possess the imposing interior tandem that Skalski and Davis gave Clemson.

It also helps that Alabama will have to deal with a similar problem on their offense, as their starting Center is out, who is arguably their best offensive linemen.

I remember during the 2012 season when we played Oklahoma in Norman. I said we need to smoke Landry Jones and he'll fold the tent. Manti shot out of a cannon and blasted Jones right in the sternum and he was gun shy the rest of that game. Now, I think Mac Jones may be a bit tougher, although he hasn't sustained much contact this year, so we don't totally know. Find a way to get to him!!!!!

Bama is still right there w/ Clemson as far as defensive rankings. I think Clemson’s gets the nod but I’m biased b/c I’ve watched them up close. Bama is still, by far; one of the best defenses (behind Clemson) ND will face.

Lou pregame (Miami game level).

As long as it is not the 89 Lou pregame ;)

Personally give me Ara pregame vs Bama in the 1973 Sugar Bowl or the 1975 Orange Bowl. Those games were tight as hell, but ND won both. Ara might have been one of the few coaches to ever defeat Bear Bryant twice, at least in bowl games. Bama was undefeated both times, too.
