Notre Dame All Time Leading Rusher
Autry Denson surpassed 100 yards rushing in a game 21 times as a RB at Notre Dame and was a 1000 yard rusher for three consecutive season. He is the all-time leading rusher with 4,448 yards, while also compiling 46 touchdowns on the ground for the Irish. He was also the MVP of the 1999 Gator Bowl against Georgia Tech rushing 26 times for 130 yards and 2 TD’s.
Denson went on to be the 233rd pick in the 1999 NFL draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. His professional career never panned out as he played for three different teams. He played the 2004 season in the CFL with the Montreal Alouettes.
In 2010 Denson started his coaching career with Pope John Paul II High School in Boca Raton, Florida. In the last 13 months he has been a coach at Bethune-Cookman, Miami-Ohio, and University of South Florida, before he was recently hired by Notre Dame.
Discussion Points
1. Is he the greatest RB to ever wear the Irish uniform?
2. Why did he not have success in the NFL?
3. What was his greatest contribution to the University?
