Even as an educator, I believe we have to get off this "School is for everyone and everyone must go to college" kick. There are many paths that lead to happiness and/or prosperity for many different people and not all of them include an education.
I agree with this completely. I think one thing that is a big factor in all this is how much the country as a whole has transitioned to service sector jobs. Frankly most of the even mid level positions in the service industry that do no require much education and that I'm familiar with pay pretty poorly and unless you know someone in and or grow up around the construction trades it's hard to get trained for and into the better paying positions (operator, super, ect...).
