Here we go again! Are they mental mistakes, fundamental, play calling, coaching, or talent. Pick one and you have the reason for 0-2. If we look hard enough we can find an opening loss just as bad as USF (Northwestern in 92). Have we collapsed like last night before (USC in 74). Bad thing with those two examples is I hate comparing teams or players from different era's. Those were much different times at ND and in college football.

We all wanted a big name coach to replace CW, TW, BD. Doubt one will ever come to ND under the current landscape of college football and ND has never hired one, ever! Not to say this in a bad way, but we have what we have and have to live with it. I think he can get the job done, obviously we have to wait till next year for the golden prize. His track record is much better than previous three and hard to tell by these two games, I think he has a plan that has worked before.

We are wanted a big season this year after how last year ended. Was going to be tough to begin with. Teams still love to beat us, want to beat us like we were still the kins of college football. Plus no matter what the media says ND still matters. Look how Navy reacted the past few years to beating. Look at how USF and UM reacted to their wins this year. This year started with questions at QB, RB and DB. All of those have come true. Hopefully, Rees stays and keeps improving. We need Jonas to keep improving and find another option or Woods will have nothing left come November. Either change the way the secondary plays or find better DB's.
Remove the a few turnovers from the past two weeks and we are 2 - 0.
Take away the penalties that advanced one of both USF and UM score drives and we are 2 - 0.
Have DB turn around once and find the ball we are 2 - 0.
I would love to run the table, not going to happen best bet is 9-3 probably 7-5. Next week will tell the tale.
Sorry for the lengthy post

I have been a member here for a while but I mainly just read and don't post but I feel compelled to this morning. This is the best bad team I have ever seen. The two things that bother me the most are the three 3rd and short running plays that never had a chance of success and Gary Gray's lack of either effort or know how in playing basic corner defense. These 6 plays had a enormous effect on the outcome of the game. I can live with the int's and fumbles, but bad play calling and a lack of effort I can't take.

All true, but Michigan had a really bad game plan. Michigan basically didn't let Denard run in the first half, which was baffling, though fortunate for us. I thought Kelly overall called a better game. But what can anybody say when the Irish make a goal-line stand and force a fumble and Michigan gets the bounce and the TD?

watch list

watch list

We have players at most positions on the various watch lists but no DB's. I heard Gary Gray was going to prove the experts wrong but not getting named to one. Something tells me he shouldn't old is breath.

The DB play was horrendous for sure. There are definate positives I see. The run blocking is there. RB's are solid. Rees is a good QB that just needs to stop turning the ball over. He's young and if Kelly can get him reined in, he'll be a good one. DL is progressing. But secondary play is killing them and they HAVE to stop the ridiculous turnovers!! 5 per game? You won't win jack doing that....
