So, now that all legitimate candidates have finished the regular season, who in the hell is going to win this Heisman race? Moreover, who do you guys think should win it.
IMO, the trophy should be awarded the player that had the most OUTSTANDING season of anyone, outstanding as in to stand out people! Its not about who is most talented, who will be the number 1 draft pick, or who is the leader for the favorite in the national championship. Whoever had the best season by standing out amongst the rest, the best performer of the year, that's who should win it. So, with that being said, here is what I think...
1. Toby Gerhart: Absolute best performer, trucks people like Bronko Nagurski, but he is quick and flashy enough to impress. Stats are there. Especially against Oregon and USC, played amazing, and also against ND... He is more deserving than anyone by far IMHO
2. Golden Tate: No this is not a joke, and I am not being a bias ND fan. Look at his highlight tape, look at his stats, look at what he does with the ball once he gets it. Replace Tate with another receiver, and watch Jimmy's stats go from top 5 rated passer to hardly top 25. Tate is the most amazing player in NCAA, and maybe the best performer. Consistency all season long also a reason why he should be in NY. Tate makes a new best catch or play of the season each week, he is simply incredible.
3. Colt McCoy: Did not do much to help his cause gainst Nebraska, but the kid wins his team games by being deadly accurate and completely cool under pressure, also a more than impressive runner when they let him (e.g. vs A&M). Has the stats to get it, although the 3 INTs tonight hurt. I would not be mad if Colt wins it, but I still think Gerhart deserves it more, and unfortunately Tate won't be in NY.
4. Ndamukong Suh: Almost more deserving than Colt, he did his job to keep McCoy and the horns out of the natty champ but it wasn't quite enough. This monster lives in the backfield. He is the reason for Nebraska's defensive success. He also performed extremely well in the big game tonight, 4.5 sacks, team leading 12 tackles, 7 for loss, all from the DT position!? This guy is amazing and it would be a shame to not see him in NY at the presentation.
5. Mark Ingram: He might be higher with the "experts" but his stats aren't there. I really could not see how anyone could put Ingram higher than Gerhart. They are both great backs but Gerhart had the better season, more impressive overall. However, Ingram came through in a big way against the #1 Gators. This gives him the 5th and final spot on my list, because well Tebow shouldn't be in NY anyway, just because you won a heisman and have two rings doesn't mean you get to be a candidate for THIS season.
Those are the 5 most outstanding players in NCAA this season, IMHO. I hope that the trophy presentation has 5 candidates there this year rather than the most recent 3. What do you guys think?
