Guys,
This is a guy I cannot understand why he is not on the field for special teams atleast. He is lightning fast and has great size. What is the story here?? Does anyone know why he is not even on the travel squad?? Watching our kick off coverage, it would be great to have a fast gunner to stop some of those long runbacks.

maybe he is so fast you just cant see him.:wink: . I agree. I heard he was all that at track coming out of HS and could out run Allen in a sprint. Where is he?

I don't know where he is, but I am sure he could replace someone on the KO team. All we need is another talented kid bummed out because he is not seeing the field headed home.

I'm sure there are reasons why he's not playing, and that the the desire to save a year of eligibility isn't the only one. There have been no signs that Smith is upset about the lack of PT, so I wouldn't worry about it. Trust the staff ...

I thought he was injured at some point in the last year? Am I thinking about the wrong player? I'm not sure.

Either way, you can't get bummed out about not seeing the field as a freshman. The secondary is the one part of the team where we have some seniority, too.

If he beat Allen in a sprint, then why the hell isnt he on the field? At least get him on kick offs or try him at WR? We have nothing to lose, so why not just try him out and let him spread the field.

Maybe Charlie wants to redshirt him this year, Zibby is a great run stopper and can lay a hit. Bruton seems to be doing well this year too. Maybe he is looking more into the future with him.

thats not a proven fact, i just remembered some one told me that smith out ran allen in a sprint.

That was brought up on Power Hour the other night, but they mentioned that the coaches are trying to save his year of eligibility so there will be a bigger gap between him and Bruton because they think so highly of Harrison's potential.

I would say the year of eligibiltiy would be the main reason that Smith is not playing. With Zibby and Bruton in there this year, why take up the year of eligibiltiy for special teams playing time. Especially if he is going to be a stand out player like expected.

Not necessarily a red shirt, but one more year in the program is all. It's common knowledge he's an exceptional athlete...perhaps the weight room and a year of learning will make all the difference

With all the freshman hitting the field this year so far, its normal to wonder why an outstanding athlete such as Harrison hasn't. He happens to be in a deep position at the moment. I expect to see him hit the field next year, and for 3 years after that. The 2 Tennessee recruits (H. Smith and Golden Tate) are going to be huge for the next few years.

Ill tell you who I cant wait to get on the field...Gary Gray. That guy is gonna be amazing.

Gary Gray had the broken arm during spring practice. He is being held out of game action for this year. He is definitely gonna be in the rotation at CB next season. The kid can cover like a blanket with great speed and size. I would say that ND is in GREAT shape all over the defensive backfield for the next several years. We have studs Walls, McNeil, Gray at CB. Smith, Bruton, McCarthy's, Slaughter and more at DB. Just need LB's and DL.

Will someone confirm that Harrison Smith is on campus and enrolled as a student. Seems to be a big mystery surrounding his whereabouts??

I met Gary and his family at the AA game last year. Good group there. They really love their kid. Plus, he IS as good as advertised. No one got an inch of separation on him in that game.

Gary Gray has been kind of forgotten due to his injury. I have little doubt that he'd be another freshman to hit the field had he be healty. Assuming we dont lose any recruits, our secondary should be sick in a few years.

Especially since McNeil was seen around campus on crutches today. :sad:

It's good to see the secondary guys getting redshirted though. If darrin walls has proved anything, it's that it takes a while for a CB to be bona fide at the college level.

It's funny how during the week this site talks about all the great potential and how we are going to be incredible in the coming years. Then, come the weekend, all the negative nancy's come aboard talking about how charlie needs to go and how awful everything is. I wish notre dame played thursday games...
