Over on the Rivals site, the message board suggested Darrel Hand has been suspended from the team indefinately. I don't know how true or what he did to get suspended, but I was just wondering if anyone had heard of anything as to what the hell is going on?

I know he wasn't a starter, but that's a big blow for our D-line this year. If nothing else, he was a big body taking up space, that really hinders an already thin line for us. I hope Williams is ready to play a lot this year. What does that leave us for our line this year, Kuntz, Laws, Brown, Stephenson Jr., Mullen, Nwankwo, and Williams, wish next years's class were able to play now.

This is absolutely a HUGE loss. It is soo dissapointing. I actually expected to see Hand play more than Kuntz. He had finally put on the size and strength to play. This leaves the DL severely depleted. If he is ousted for the season, this will cost us some games. This position is in worst shape than any other on the team. We do not have another big body to take his place. Williams will not be able to handle the strength and size of college lineman until he has a season in the weight room. Mullen does not have the big body necessary to take the punishment.

Yeah, this hurts ND a lot. DL depth was already one of the weakest spots on the team, if not the weakest already.

Here's your shot Ian Williams, make the most of it.

I think he'll be starting halfway through the season. For any D-lineman who didn't want to come to ND, look at Ian Williams, he's sure as hell going to get his shot to start this year, and I have a feeling he's going to make the most of it. It's going to be rough going at first, but, I have a feeling these kids are going to be put down alot, and I think it's going to motivate them. I am really looking forward to what the D-line can do this year. Let's not forget Emeka Nwankwo, he too might be able to make an immediate impact. At least I hope.

If what I've heard is true it wouldn't suprise me to see him not play at all this year, and after that who knows.

I've heard a reason, but I don't think it would be fair to Darrel to talk about it in case the reason I've heard is false. Needless to say it's pretty serious.

Thanks for keeping quiet, Goshen. Let's not let this board descend into gossiping about our own players. We should just mind our own business.

Ouch. I was hoping for improved pass defense this year, but I hope it doesnt come at the cost of getting trampled at the line of scrimmage. D-Line is by far the team weakness at this point. Anyway, I hope for his and the teams sake that this blows over.

Well if what is being said is true, he won't be back on the team at all, ever. B&G has a nice article about D-line depth here.

it's time to move on, if he can come back great, but right now he his off the team so it's time for players to step up. I hate to say this but it is better that this happen now then the beginning of Sept. If he is not able to come back I wish him luck

It's true, he solicited a hooker in South Bend...they caught him in a sting. He's done.

not to be a complete pecker, but if the allegations are the foundation for the suspension then thank goodness...no guns, drugs or violence to others that seem to mar so many incidents. i'm not condoning the alleged actions in any way, but am glad they are not as serious (re:felony charges) as other incidents reported at other schools.

I just can't believe he was this stupid this close to the start of camp. I know, he's innocent until proven guilty, but, when you're as valuable as he is, and is needed as badly as he is needed this year, if he did indeed offer one of the officer's, then he need not come back. That is a nice black eye for the Univesity. Just because at most public Universities things along these lines take place, ND is differant that way. Just don't what in the hell he could have been thinking.

I don't know ... in my mind this is damn near as serious as it gets.

Well, it looks like the rumors I heard were unfortuantly true. Too bad.

Yeah, when I saw the rumors and then came across the SB Trib article saying that four men had been busted in a prostitution sting (it was one of their "most viewed" - but didn't yet say anything about Hand), I figured there was no more reason for doubt. What an ass.

sorry but i must disagree. there is a reason this behavior is a misdemeanor and other behaviors, such as rape, murder, unlawful discharge of firearms, felony assault or steroid possession, are felonies. while this may be unsavory and definitely goes against the moral principles of the university, it should not be equated on a seriousness scale with those other crimes. should this young man have consequences for his actions? certainly, which we all saw began with his indefinite suspension. should he be given a second chance? that is up to coach weis and the university, as well as his ability to grow from this lapse in judgment. i hope that after whatever time period the staff and university deem appropriate that this young man can return to leave all with a better impression of who he is and what he is made of.
