So for reference, I'm from Canada.

My eldest daughter has a BSc in Biology from a very tough University in Canada. She wants to continue with a Masters degree. The only Universities that offer her program are Boston University (Medical), Syracuse and The University of New Haven.

She just wrote her GRE today... she was told (to her chagrin, two days ago) that she would probably have to write it again two or three times to get the scores she needed. I don't get it?

Regardless, and I'm not going to publish her scores, she wrote today and got two of them back quite quickly and the auditor told her she was "way above average".

What the hell... her scores were all close to 160... I don't know what that means? She is fluent in three languages (English, french, Spanish) and volunteers in causes to advance hungry/homeless issues.

As I wrote, not sure what her scores mean. Is there a chance she could get into Grad School or do you think she may have to rewrite the GRE? She is adamant that she is not going to rewrite as she thinks it's a bit of a scam.

Not sure what to believe. My daughter and I love her and she is smart but the politics of education piss me off.

Cheers and Go Irish!!

160 puts her in about the 80th percentile it looks like. So if five kids take the test, only one likely did better than her. If only three universities in the United States offer the program, I imagine it is VERY competitive.

With fluency in those three languages and strong volunteer credentials, that seems like it should certainly help out.

Thanks for that.

Very competitive and she never had illusions of Med School.

Lots of smart people out there!

GRE is kind of a strange beast. A lot of humanities programs will ignore the quant entirely, while strong MBA programs expect near perfection. My feeling is that 160 per section is kind of low but it's highly program dependent. Best thing is to compare to averages in her destination programs.
