Tight End Situation

Tight End Situation

It seems like the tights ends are in pretty good shape. One would think that Yeatman should be a pretty good blocking tight end, however I've never heard anything about his hands. And with Ragone and Reauland we should be pretty well off, even if Carlson decides to leave.

Remember when Mary Kate Olsen left for Miami? People shrugged their shoulder and said "meh. Lesser ranked John Carlson is more athletic anyway." Those people were right. Not that the Olsen twin is anything to sneeze at, but I'd talke Carlson anyday.

Where'd Ashley end up again, Virginia? God, why didn't I think of this reference?! Moe beats X this round.

I was very saddened by Fasano leaving early and then the Cowboys drafting him 2 spots ahead of the Bengals ... damn Parcells.

Carlson was such a pleasant surprise and know he should win the award, be the first TE drafted, late first/early second.

If he were still there, he'd be a Bengal. It's almost a blessing, though, considering the OL injuries. Whitworth has been a Godsend.

The Bengals were shocked when Fasano was taken right ahead of them, thought they had him the bag. But yes, Whitworth has been amazing. Without him, Carson probably gets hurt again. I was hoping Fasano would be the final piece, a good TE, to an unstoppable offense. Things happen for a reason.

Let's go Ecks!

... and the Bengals still need a TE, so if Carlson does go to the draft ... I'll be getting a Bengals jersey.

The best part is how in just one season Carlson jumped Mary Kate as the best tight end in college. IMO Mary Kate's greastest achievement in college has been being apart of the 7th floor crew.

Carlson is a great tight end. He was the money guy on 4th down plays. That was clearly obvious on Saturday seeing how we didnt' convert one of them.

I'm live in Dallas and I was very happy the cowboys picked up Fasano

He's becoming a little more active in the offense now that Romo is back there tearing things up but he has been called for several holding penalties this year as well as missed some crucial blocks that really hurt the cowboys. I have seen him get an earful from Parcells on multiple occasions this year but he's a rookie and still has a lot to learn so I have no doubt he'll get better

Also, I have no doubt Carlson will win the Mackey award based on his production on the field as well as in the classroom

Someone wanna explain to me how Matt Spaeth won this award? Carlson's numbers were better in every facet AND he missed 3 games...

I think it's because of the fact that Spaeth was such a contributor to Minnesota.

Yes, Carlson contributed a lot, but he missed three games. Spaeth played every game and was named the team MVP.

As much as I believe that Carlson is a better player and overall more deserving, I can understand why Spaeth was picked before him this time.

I guess he will have to come back now next year so he can win the award.

AMEN!!!

That would be great, he's such a great player and a good guy too. He would provide some great leadership for Reuland and Yeatman. We could have some interesting formations with 3 TEs. ;)

That is the only logical explanation i can think of because everything else points to Carlson.

I hope that is NOT their rationale. I thought the Mackey award went to the BEST TE: whether he was the 25th MVP on his loaded team, or whether he was a team's offesnsive weapon. I would hope that the voting did not come down to "which TE was the Most Integral player for his team". I could live with it if UMinn-guy was rated a better overall TE (ie. blocking, etc), but not due to who was a more important 'cog' in his team.

Also, Carlson got 'jobbed' if they dinged him for missing 2 games due to the crack-back blocking of Air Force; he still played 10 games and put up better numbers.

Okay, I'll climb off my soapbox now......

I do believe Spaeth is regarded as a good blocking te, something that Carlson is actually deficient at. Also, I'm sure Weis would tell ya that stats don't tell the whole story. The question might have been whether Carlson's stats were good enough to overcome missing games and his lack of blocking. Personally, I haven't watched enough of all the te candidates to know for sure; I'm assuming most of us haven't, so Carlson was not necessarily "jobbed."

Any word on if he will be ready for the Sugar Bowl? That was the rumor...

Sure he was! Blocking is for o-linemen!

Why have tight ends, then, if you don't have them to also block. I pretty much guarantee Weis would disagree that blocking is only for o-linemen. We wonder why the o-line was such a dissapointment this year, with 4 guys returning. I would say tight end probably was part of the reason (certainly not all).

I have heard the Spaeth was a real force on the Gophers...more than just a great receiver.

I would have LOVED to see Carlson get this award, but I would not go so far to say he was robbed, etc.

I suspect Spaeth really did a great job.

And let's face it, Spaeth's stats came on a shitty team...he musta really fought for them. I think he should get a little extra love for that alone.

They were better than Fasano's last year and he missed two games. impressive. I also met his family at the GT game. Super nice people all around.
