Goodman is a 3 star

When asked why they dropped Goodman, Mike Farrel responded with, "John Goodman, to me, is Barry Gallup. He wasn't nearly as big as we expected and did okay but doesn't warrant 250."

What an idiot!

Then he practically made fun of Newman. Someone brought up the point that height shouldn't be a huge factor in their rankings of Newman given that they just gave Omar a 5th star. Then Farrell replyed with, "Newman makes Omar Hunter look 6-foot-5".

He also gave some lame excuse for dropping Deion so far.

The latest rankings have convinced me that the analysts have other things in mind than just evaluating each guy individually. I personally think they dropped some of our guys to avoid the possible backlash they might have gotten from upgrading other nd guys like floyd and robinson. The last thing they want is to be accused of bias towards one school, so they avoid this by playing games with the rankings of a school's commits. Take a look at numbers 179-184 for instance; I find it hard to believe that five notre dame commits somehow land almost right next to eachother in a list of 250 players, I would like to hear farrel try to explain that coincidence.

There are lots of 3 star players who become great in college or the pros. Ndukwe was a 3 star. Try probably the two best LB's to play at OSU in the last 15 years. Both Hawk and Lauranitis were 3 star recruits. As NDOM pointed out, we have had plenty of 3 star guys work out very nicely. The reality is that you have a higher likelyhood of a 4 or 5 star kid ending up as a great player, so you chase them the hardest. I am sure we are all pleased with the current talent coming to ND.

Richard Jackson and DJ Hord were both 4-star WR recruits...to date they have done exactly nothing (injuries or not - neither was exactly the buzz around the boards and fans prior to injuries and neither has done anything in games either)....can't get too binged up over # of stars...I'll be far more interested to see the number of STARTS for each of these wunderkids in 2008. Robby Parris was a 3-star (I believe, correct me if I have that wrong), but to date he has shown more flashes on the field than Jackson or Hord.

Truly "special" players find their way onto the field early and often and elite players not only get on the field, they generate results. I suspect that Floyd is one of the "special" players who come in and just make a difference. I've seen the Larry Fitzgerald comparisons a lot and I hope that he IS that kind of player (well, without the whole skipping 2-years of eligibility to go pro part anyway.....hurts graduation rates you know...lol)
