Golden Tate for the Heisman.

Maybe I'm just not getting it. The Heisman is not for the best quarterback, it's for the BEST FOOTBALL PLAYER.....
Some of you think that Golden Tate shouldn't win???? Golden Tate is the best football player on ND and probably the NCAA.

I'll answer this the same way I answered your post on the Jimmy thread:

He's not even the best receiver on the team. I love me some Golden Tate, but Michael Floyd is the better receiver. How many drops did he have this year? Tate has dropped 3 TD passes, and he's a horrible (yet improving) blocker (this is per several coaches who know more about this than you and I). This year for some reason he has a case of the dropsies (he bobbled a few balls yesterday as well).

I'm not trying to dis Tate, because he is a phenominal player who proved what a complete stud he is, but he has a superstar QB getting him the ball in position to make plays. Ask AJ Green (perhaps the best receiver in college football, along with Julio Jones and Michael Floyd) if he'd like to have Jimmy throwing him the ball.

Actually, as I'm typing this, remembering how hard it is to tackle Tate, he has to be considered one of the top 5 receivers in the game. I'd still take Floyd over him (Floyd was putting up video game numbers when he was healthy), but man, what a performance yesterday. But for me, Jimmy is the best player on this team. He's been absolutely unbelievable. Chris Mortensen on ESPN last night said that the top NFL QB prospect in college was playing in South Bend yesterday, and that GMs are looking at Clausen and Locker as the top 2 QBs in next year's draft (although not necessarily in that order)...

Just playing devil's advocate, but GT needs to do something with a punt other than wave for a fair catch. Bilitnikoff, it's him or A.J. Green. Heisman....a WR has to play perfect amd then some. Nothing special in the return game and some key drops throughout the season.

Nothing but love for ya, Tater.

I have to disagree. ND played fundamental football yesterday and thats why we won. If we get crazy and try to make plays with as good of punt coverage as Washington had, we turnover the pigskin deep in our territory.

GT is playing ball. JC is playing ball. Big Hughes is getting it done. Now we need AA and Paris to step up. Is it me or does Paris remind anyone else of Samardjiza?

We have a big test in two weeks. I hope these kids rise to the occasion...

Parris? Samardzija? I saw the resemblance two years ago when Parris was making plays.

Parris is really stepping it up and proving me wrong. He had a nice catch for a first down early on in the game, and made a really clutch play and got another first down during the fourth quarter drive that put us in the lead.

Whatever happened to Julio Jones after he retired from football? How did that Bama commit work out for him?

I know he was never offered by ND - but is Bama typically a place where #1 5 star WR go to die?

dude julio with less than 200 yrs receiving is still one of the best wrs in the nation. he just has a qb in mcelroy who spreads the ball out a little more than jpw did. julio was thrown to last year like seriously 30 times more than anyone else. half the receivers on bama's team right now have surpassed their reception record from last year bc julio was getting every pass now its spread out and he doesnt seem so dominant

Julio is battling injuries.

Besides, he's the only good receiver on his team. Thus, he is put in double coverage and is bracketed by a third player on EVERY SINGLE DOWN.

I bet our converted running back (to WR) would hate to be keyed on - or else he might have had 300+ yards against a good UW defense.

How can you mention Steve Smith of USC when there's a much, much better Steve Smith on the Carolina Panthers who is exactly the kind of player Golden Tate is.

Since Steve Smith of the Panther's is known for punching out teammate's . I will stick to the one on my beloved Giants.

Brandon Stokley, Wayne Crebet, Austin Collee...

Who are two guys who will never sniff the HOF, and one rookie who has played a grand total of 4 games?

I'm not saying that slot receivers get NO recognition. I was just making the point that they don't get the same recognition as the guys on the outside (and that's true).

How many slot receivers have a running back's open field ability?

Julio is a possesion reciever and a huge redzone target. He is not better than Tate or Floyd. AJ Green is a bad man. Of all those big recievers in 08. Green is the only one who can see Floyd

Julio is a physical freak. A big redzone target, sometimes a decent possession receiver. I think he has loads of potential, but his playing style (giving 397% effort and putting a tremendous amount of strain on his body) could end his career before he leaves college. He is not better than Golden Tate or Michael Floyd.

Michael Floyd is the best wide receiver in college football. Green is the only player who can hold his jock.

Golden opens up the rest of the field for the offense. #45 on BC missed the tackle on Golden's TD by 10 yards.

No doubt Golden is more valuable to this team than any receiver in the country. Saying Floyd is better or Tate is better really doesn't matter. When they are on the field together, ND is much, much better. I look forward to Pitt or Navy, when the whole stable is on the field at once.

Golden is gonna tear it up when Floyd comes back.

Speaking of Julio, he had 7 grabs today. I think that's more than he's had combined all year long.

Been saying this for a month-the Heisman trophy is not worth the dust it collects if Golden Tate is not invited to New York.

Look, Golden Tate is definitely a great talent. But, he's not even the best receiver on his own team, let alone in the entire country. I love watching the guy play, but let's keep it in perspective.

Thats your thoughts, not everyones, I can see him winning the countries best reciver award.
