Man you like to hang off Sharpleys boys dont you? Weis opened the playbook for him and not for jimmy. JC was hurt and was limited to his passes. I dont believe JC had kamara and tate out there much like Sharpley had them the entire time. JC is still the starter, like it or not.

It really does no good to start Evan at this time. He is a senior and will not be there next year. We have to get Jimmy more game experience, a win and maybe playing last two minutes with a game on the line and see how he manages that situation. It is really nothing against Evan if he were a sophmore or even a junior I might say play him, but he is a senior and will be not be around to help the team next year.

In almost all situations a two quarterback offense does not work very well. Take Tennessee in 05 for instance. I want the q.b. that can help us win in there. Doesn't matter to me if it is Clausen or Sharpley. but hopefully one will be decided and the coaches will stick with that one. If Clausen is out this week because of Injury and Sharpley does very well against UCLA, Then I would say he has a better argument to be the starting Q.B. Everyone remember Clausen is the one that got the wheels rolling on offense first in the game. So was Sharpley just benifiting from the offense getting a kick start, or is he the better q.b.?

The problem with this article is that the author appears to lay all of the blame for the offensive woes on Clausen. How did Sharpley do against GT? The truth of the matter is that the offensive line has been horrible. You could have put Dan Marino, Roger Staubach, Peyton Manning, or anyone else, at QB in the first 4 games, and they all would have looked bad. It's hard to do anything when you barely have time to drop back and set your feet before getting creamed. Sharpley played great, but the fact of the matter is that one overzealous announcer (Andre Ware) single handedly manufactured a QB controversy where there wasn't one.

Does this topic really need ANOTHER thread of its own? Clausen's starting next week, unless he's injured. Deal with it.

Guys,
I am not anti-Clausen. I just feel that Evan has been the ultimate team player and shown good moxi when he has been shoved in to play. He played very well this week and after sitting for two years and then dealing with the JC hoopla, DJ starting in front of him and being basically forgotten on this team, he should be given his fair shot a start. What can it hurt??? If he struggles like JC has, you go with JC since he is the youth with upside. If he performs well, you give JC some time to learn on the sideline just like Evan and almost every other QB in college does. Learning the system from the sideline is not a bad thing. You can see how Evan makes his reads and progressions faster than JC, this is from time and understanding of the O. JC will be a good possibly great QB, but if Evan is more polished now then you let him lead the team for 2008. Plus, I think having a more experienced guy at UCLA could be a good thing. JC will be a huge focus at UCLA since the game will be in his backyard. More reason for UCLA to be hungry to abuse the poor freshman. GO IRISH!!!!!!!!!!

JC is the future for sure, but the team needs wins to secure our recruiting efforts. ES should start just based on that. Plus JC is going to get killed out there with this line...then what?

Well I think that Clausen in a lot more talented than Sharpley. But ES has the "experience" factor to him. But Weis is starting more and more young guys. That sticks out to the incoming class that the best players will play no matter what class your in.

Evan looks good because we run the 'two minute' offense with him. He is a good quarterback and could start for a lot of teams. Not to mention, he hasn't played himself out of contention to be our starter.

Jimmy non-injured is still the better player, not to mention a player with more years of eligiblity down the road to develop. There is zero chance that Weis 'plays musical quarterbacks' now that we are working (somewhat sucessfully) to establish an offensive identity. Evan is, at least for now, a situational quarterback. Switching starters at this point is going to demoralize the team as well as the person being put into the backup role.

ES should start. JC has tons of talent, and yes, he is the future of Notre Dame Football. (patience young Grasshopper.) But given the performance of the offensive line to this point, does it really matter who's blood we chum the water with?

The offensive line looked a lot better both of the last two weeks, and Clausen completed EIGHTY PERCENT of his passes after halftime. We're in this to win games, not chum the water - and if that's what you're trying to do, you don't bench your starter just because his backup played well off the bench for a quarter and a half.

There is no effing quarterback controversy.

Not here to argue just posting my thoughts. FYI I know we're in this to win games.. I dive 9and half hours for every home game.

That's cool - I understand. Sorry if I came across as snippy, I just think that this sort of controversy is the last thing a team like this needs.

How could I argue with a guy with an avatar like that, though ... :)

Off topic: WalshND, who is that in your avatar?

On topic: I'm torn on this topic, on one hand Jimmy is the future and everyone knows it. On the other hand, Evan played well when he was in. There were a couple of plays that I think Jimmy wouldn't have been able to react to YET. Not that he is far off, I think he is still just a little behind in the speed of the game. I want to win now and I think Evan gives us the best chance for that, at least for the next couple weeks but I believe Jimmy will be to Evan's level by the end of the year for sure. I guess what it comes down too is that this year is a bust, I would rather get Jimmy the experience.
