Heisman Trophy runner-up Toby Gerhart announced Friday that he will enter the NFL Draft instead of staying at Stanford for a fifth season.
Gerhart thanked coach Jim Harbaugh, former running backs coach Willie Taggart and his offensive linemen for helping his success this season. He could have stayed for a fifth season because he played just one game in 2007 because of injuries, but opted for the NFL instead.

With Gerhart in the NFL, Stanford's offense next season will revolve more around quarterback Andrew Luck. Stepfan Taylor, who ran for 303 yards as a freshman, will step in at tailback along with Jeremy Stewart and Tyler Gaffney.

Should be taking the Heisman with him to the NFL - and would've if Stanford would have won a couple more games.

Good luck to him in the NFL, Toby is a tough dude that doesn't look like fun to tackle.

good for him, but i wouldnt get to excited just yet. Stanford has some very good RB's and return their whole offensive line. they are still going to be commited to running, running, and more running. plus, Luck looked like a very capable qb and is only a sophomore.

Not too many RBs can truck LBs like Gerhart did to ND.

I enjoyed watching him play. Those games against Oregon and USC were amazing. The game against ND, you knew what was coming and was hard to watch.
