It wreaks of laziness and/or nepotism to a fault. Really both. Not a single team with NC aspirations would offer this guy the OC position.

You know my passion, things changed this year after clemson it sounds like (should have happened after USC and we'd be 10-2). I'm not going to flip out yet until we know for sure Parker is the OC by himself. I have to believe worst case we have a dual OC role next year. I don't like that, but I can see some value in it to ensure you keep Gino with Carr and potential portal QB coming in very soon. You want to get those two going in the program ASAP. With Gino and Rudolph on staff, they should be much more involved if they stay on staff.

Nor do we hear rumors of NFL interest. People may hate Rees (I am not one) but there seemed to be rumors of him and the NFL.

The problem with Rees was he was just starting to get good when he left. He was completely unprepared for his OC role and it showed in the bowl game vs OK state, and it showed a lot of times in 2022, but he was learning. We didn't get to reap the fruits of our labor of suffering through his growing pains. I have no doubt with hartman and Rees we'd be 11-1 this year at worst and heavily in the discussion or in the CFP with a realistic chance to win it all due to our D being as good as anyone, and a 6th year quarterback and elite running back that can handle the moment.

If Parker is in fact coming back, I'll start praying for Ryan Day to be fired so maybe they take Freeman off our hands. That decision is all I needed to see from him to know he's not going to do anything special at ND

The only reason Parker is currently employed as OC of Notre Dame is because he is buddies with Freeman. I can almost kinda sorta understand the mental gymnastics required to justify the promotion, but in no world should this guy start next season as OC or co-OC (whether in title or in practice). He was an experiment and he failed. Next.

But at least he was OC while BK was here. I was fine with that similar to being fine with a MF/Mickens partnership at DC. Part of the problem for MF is he doesn’t have an offensive background. He similarly doesn’t know how to draw up route combos, etc.

If Gino is officially pass game coordinator and you make someone like Deland or Rudolph run game coordinator, we may squeak by but it’s not ideal.

agree 100%. I'm assuming golden stays. If golden leaves you need to have one big time experienced coordinator/prior HC on your staff at minimum

At that point -- if you have 3 OCs, do you really have any?

Man I’m really excited to see what Parker can do in year 2. The sky’s the limit if we were 13th in offense this year. Especially now that he’s discovered play action. Maybe he’ll watch some film and see how to use motion, rubs, and crossing routes. Maybe even a screen pass for good measure. These are exciting times gentlemen, enjoy the ride.

This is interesting, and to add some color to that here are how the "good" teams that ND played finished the season on defense per F+ (FEI combined with SP+):
NC State - #17
Ohio State - #1
Duke - #24
Louisville - #19
Clemson - #7

NC State was the only "good" team where ND had a modicum of success, and that was with 21 of 45 points coming off of three NC State turnovers late in the game. So every game against a good defense where ND didn't get short fields / game changing plays from the defense was a train wreck.

Here are the defenses that ND torched:
Navy - 59th
TSU - FCS team
CMU - 124th
USC - 101st
Pitt - 44th
Wake - 53rd
Stanford - 112th

All you need is common sense to understand we struggled against the good.

I don't think anyone is debating that.

I would debate that the season overall was a "disaster" or a "dumpster fire." If people want to throw those terms around, they should be forced to watch every offensive snap of the 2007 season because if you haven't seen it, you ain't seen shit when it comes to dumpster fires.

We did. Having to play walk ons at receiver and your iol being bad will do that against the best teams.

Let's see what this staff can do with a loaded room at every position. I think we'll be pleasantly surprised.

Not all position coaches are meant to be coordinators. Not all coordinators are meant to be head coaches. It’s okay to be a really good position coach but not a good coordinator. There’s a reason GP was demoted rather quickly at his previous stop. And a reason you never saw his name linked with other OC openings (let alone NFL jobs).

If he can’t design an offense or just can’t figure out how to call a game, that’s okay. Move him back to TE coach where he excels and hire someone who does know how to do it. Bring in someone that can design proper route combos, understands motion and play action, and knows how to call a game.

I can’t think of another coordinator that magically became worlds better in less than a year. Genuinely, if someone has examples, I’m all ears.

If MF is staking his ND HC career on GP then so be it. If next season is similar to this one, they both can go.

Where has demoting someone and keeping them on staff worked? That’s right it doesn’t. It causes bad blood and causes issues in house we don’t need.

I wouldn’t expect MF to flat out say they are shopping for an OC right now. That should happen behind the scene. If they are fully intending to keep GP as OC, I’m not too excited for next season.

The reactions being posted right now are because he didn't do exactly this, however. Which is what I'm failing to understand.

Some of you guys need to get a breath of fresh air. We all love ND football but there are more important things to life. Life is more enjoyable when you don’t stress over things out if your control. Especially when most of us have no say in the matter or intel on what is going on behind the scenes with the coaching staff.

Hell, fellas y’all gotta forgive me for that whole “play action” hiccup. Y’see I done thought “play action” was what the feller in charge told them folks up on the stage that one time when “Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat” played down at the Baptist church in the county seat. Hell of a play though—y’all ever seent that one?

Pretty sure that's what a QB coach is for...

The OC will have a more direct effect on the development of the next quarterback than any position coach. You can run as many drills and practice as much technique as you'd like in practice, but the OC is the one installing the passing concepts and the offense as a whole. His decisions regarding offensive installation and then play-calling will decide whether the next quarterback succeeds or fails.

Depends how you see the world. If MF is still figuring it out he may stay with GP as part of the "experiment ". Then again, if he is committed to willing, he will breakdown any door, hustle and grab the best coaches possible for each position.
