ND's Gray hoping to return for summer school

Notre Dame sophomore cornerback Gary Gray hopes to return to Notre Dame in the summer, according to a family member close member to Gray.

According to the family member, Gray is not enrolled this semester because of academic issues. Those issues forced Gray to miss the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl, but the family member said Gray is hopeful that those issues won't stop him from re-enrolling during the summer session to get back in good academic standing.

Notre Dame spokesman Brian Hardin said he couldn't speak specifically about Gray's situation because of privacy laws, which limit the release of private information, but did say that Gray has not been suspended, and should he re-enroll in school, he will be allowed back on the football team.

Gray was a backup to Raeshon McNeil this season. He saw action in nine games and had 15 tackles, two interceptions, two pass breakups, four passes defended and a recovered fumble.

According to the family member, Gray is spending the spring semester back in his hometown of Columbia, S.C., working out with a personal trainer and trying to get prepared to both attend Notre Dame and play for the Irish again.

Thanks for the info. I'm hoping he can get his academic standing in good order. I'm very high on this kid, he has way too much upside to lose.

Really good news...I've always been really high on GG and think he will be a playmaker for us the next couple of years. The kid is talented.

the difference between some universities and other is that this kid will hopefully come back and continue to learn how to learn and get a good education. some schools will not make that happen and will instead let the kid get to an age which it is too late to start to learn how to learn.

i hope he does well, for himself. and then for the football team. which if he does good for himself i think he will do good for the team.

I hope Gray comes back. I'd love to see teams try and run the spread offense against Walls, McNeil, Blanton, Gray, K. McCarthy and H. Smith!

It's really great to see guys like Stewart, Walls, Kuntz, and Gray not giving up and coming back like they have...

true! many kids have a tough time especially their first year at college and many never get back and get their degree. its great to hear that a kid has had issues and has worked hard and made it back to where he belongs.

its surely a wake up call for many kids. there is no mommy and daddy there to tell you what to do everyday.
