College football fans are notorious for being so passionate that they sometimes lose touch with reality. That's not the case here. Everyone knows we're playing for next year.

This year we take our lumps. Maybe we win some games we're not supposed to and make it to a crap bowl and get a win and build momentum heading into a very exciting 2008 season.

Yeah were not doing so well, so far this season, but lets have hope and faith that the Irish will do better instead of writing them off to lose almost every game they play. Everything doesn't have to be positive ... it just doesn't have to be the end of the world when a young squad loses a couple of games to good teams. I hate when ND loses as much as anyone, but I'm smart enough to look at the big picture -- we are building a team for the long haul, and we're going to have to take our lumps.

If you would have said "If the Irish don't start playing better than they are only going to win four games at the end of the year I would have agreed with that. It just seemed to me that you were already willing to write them off for only four wins regardless of what improvements they make. I will say that, If we don't get something going it could be the worst season I've seen . But I beleive they will improve and win some games.

My friend (ha!), I have concluded that you are a troll, and that DD can have you if they want. To honestly decide on the basis of TWO GAMES ("... and ZERO OFFENSIVE TOUCHDOWNS!" - I know, I know) against excellent opponents and with a very young team that everything that happened in the last two years and during Weis's NFL career is a mirage, and that he is after all UNABLE to design and coach a successful offense, is a position so irrational that I have trouble ascribing it to anyone.

Some facts to chew on folks. I went thru and looked at our level of talent vs the other teams we play. Here are some things to consider. I looked at all the depth charts of our opponnents, minus the two academies since they have no website info. 72% of the starting line ups come from Juniors and Seniors. We do fall in that mix. Where things start to sway in an ugly direction is when you consider the level of that talent. I included our 5th year folks with our seniors as a contributing class. If create an average based on Rivals recruiting rankings, here is how we break out. We have a blended recruiting ranking of 24th in the country based on how our classes contribute. Unfortunately we do not play the 24th toughest schedule. More likely our schedule is top 5. The contribution by each class is as follows when you look at all our opponents.

Sr class 40% 5th years rank #12 and seniors rank #32
Jr class 32% rivals rank #40 (Duke rank only 4 below ND)
So class 20% rivals rank #8
Fr class 10% rivals rank #8
Another FACT to consider is that ND does NOT allow JC transfers. Every major opponent we play has multiple JC transfers. When you can fill those voids with an instant upper class talent that is huge. Imagine how an additional BIG body on DL, speedster at WR and stud OL would change who we are right now. This is what many major programs are doing. Just look at Oklahoma. 8 JC transfers in two years. Even if only half pan out that is two voids filled on each side of the ball. HUGE!!!! Even the SC has supplemented with JC kids. I do NOT want us to fill with these kids, but this is just another fact on how we are behind in talent.
I love the kids we have. They give great effort and will mature into great players. We need one more class of talent to get us back on track. It is coming. Further, CW is not going to sit around and cry about what the facts of the previous coach. He is just working hard to right the ship. I am not totally happy with his play calling, but I believe he will continue to improve. If we do not see improvement by end of 2008 then you make move. He will have 3 full recruiting classes in place and even the Soph class will have lots of experience. 2009 will be a year for the ages!!!

The main issues with this team are on the OL...Weis got some GREAT TY PLAYERS on last years OL. They underachieved but this Line should be much better...can the coaching staff develope talent? QB and WR yes...but that is not going to win a nation championship. I think the defensive issues will be fixed by Brown but the OL has struggled and underachieved for too long...

Georgia Tech damn near went to a BCS bowl last year, and they almost beat WEST FRICKING VIRGINIA. Same goes for Navy, who went 8-4 and damn near beat BC in their bowl game.

I live in Atl and went to a couple of GT games last year...They were not a very good team. They were a good team. Reggie Ball use to throw the ball in stands like it was his job...he was terrible. I believe they finished the season unranked after losing 3 straight.

The question is not whether "MSU is always a tough game." In fact, that's completely irrelevant to the point at hand.

MSU was a horrible team the past two years. This is why their coach was fired. That Notre Dame needed a miracle comeback to beat them is indicative not of how "tough MSU is, but rather of how weak that ND team was.

But her are the facts: the ND football team as a whole is underachieving, thats players and coaches and fans. What I know is that CW has some experience with winning, and playcalling, and coaching.
