I am looking to purchase a 32" flat screen lcd or plasma tv and i was looking for some opinions on what I should get. Interested in brand names and the difference in quality between lcd and plasma. Thanks in advance.

There was a good thread about that very subject here not too long ago.
I'd search using 'plasma' as my keyword. It's there somewhere.

It all depends on what specifically you need. If you aren't planning on mounting it to the wall, you can get a bigger dlp for the money of a smaller Plasma. The plasma picture is sharper, but how sharp do you need it? My 56" Samsung DLP is only about 12" thick and the picture is only slightly less sharp than a plasma. IMO, hardly enough to tell. Take a look at both side by side and decide for yourself. I was looking for size because of my living room, so I went with the DLP. The Samsung DLP is so friggin sharp it's amazing. But plan on getting $90 HDMI cables and you HAVE to get HDTV programming from your cable provider. It's a waste without it. Watching games on ESPNHD is unbelievable on a 56" DLP.

I went with the DLP instead of the LCD. DLP colors are more vibrant, but the blacks are not as black. What do I care about how dark the black spots are?

Thanks NDAlumSon; I found the old thread. Pinoy, thanks for the offer but unfortunately I live in FL instead of IL like I used too.

Kinda hard to have decent contrast with crappy black levels, ain't it?

All I know is that picture looks good. I'm not exactly technically inclined. It's like the old saying, "I don't know about art, but I know what I like."

I hear ya....was just pointing out that black levels have alot more to do with the picture than just the dark spots on the screen. My wife and kids are famous for jacking up the brightness and contrast which turns black to gray.
