guys, it was just a joke. Every position has it's dumb players, and it's brainiac players. On my h.s. team, the D-Linemen were pretty damn dumb. And on the average, from what I've read, lots of D-linemen in the NFL aren't exactly your Rhodes Scholars. But I was just kidding though (sorry IA and Montana, didn't mean to offend anyybody). Truth is, we're never going to get the type of D-linemen currently playing on Alabama's and LSU's rosters on a consistent basis. Those guys just don't get accepted by CW. He's hamstrung in those cases. Go read Meat Market...many of these boys from the deep South simply don't have the means to an education that will get them prepared for a school like Notre Dame. Ed O's first year at Ole Miss, half the kids he recruited were either kicked out for academics or for rules violations (and were about to be kicked out for academics). It's a different world out there...

First Polish Irishman, it is Nawthern Aggression.
Take it from somebody from the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Home of The Beauvoir. (Jefferson Davis' last home.) ha! ha!

I know several alumni from ND that went to school high school in the south. One, from my small southern hick town of Picayune, MS. I know you were only pickin' as we say down here. So I thought I would pick back.

Ha ha. I'm talking about the deeeeeep south. Not ATL. There's books out there I've read about education (being a teacher), and some of the stuff is simply unbelievable. I know bad education and poverty are all over (shit, Los Angeles anyone?), but the level of degree in the deep recesses of places like Mississippi and Louisiana is appalling. And I brought up Meat Market as well as 'The Blind Side' because they talk about it in a football sense. The Blind Side in particular talks about the deep level of poverty facing these kids, and the overwhelmed school districts who have a helluva time keeping track of these kids. A lot of these guys simply didn't have much of a chance. The only reason Michael Oher got out and made it into Ole Miss (and became a 1st round draft pick) was because a coach and a family took him in and gave him a home as a sophomore in high school. Before that, the local school district had absolutely no clue where he lived nor when was the last time he even went to school. The DMV didn't even have him on file. He had 12 brothers and sisters and none of them consistently went to school.

There are tons of great schools in the south, and many great people have come out of there. I wasn't trying to bang on the South, no matter how it seemed. Anyways, PI, I'll take your advice and shut up now LOL...

This thread will be revived soon.

As it should be.

The quality of this program has slipped dramatically and now are expectations are lowered because of it. How some of you guys are excited losing by 7 to the Trojims and winning by the skin of our teeth against weak programs like Washington and Purdue shows that we dont expect to Play Like a Champion anymore. The last several years of this program is a disgrace to the legends and to the school's great name, we're now a 2nd tier school without anything to be proud about our program other than being the best of the FBS indipendents.

At least for me, I keep thinking ND (and Weis) will turn the corner. It sounds worse to start over, lose a whole class or more of recruits, transfers, etc. We want Weis to succeed, but it isn't happening as fast as we want. For his sake, they better win out.

How quickly we forget the frustration of the Davie/Willingham years...Of the three BCS bowls we have been to...how many were under Weis's command?

I've been waiting for 5 years and I am beginning to wonder how long can we go on with this belief of Weis finally putting it together and turning Notre Dame into an Elite team in College Football. This was supposed to be our year, not 2010, not 2011. What happened to our committment to excellence at Notre Dame? The university and fans are happy with 7-5 or 8-4 seasons now or losing by just 7 to USC.

Hopefully we win out but I am not sure of any victory other than Washington State left on our schedule.

If you believe that we have only one win on the schedule left, then you are an idiot!!! This team is light years ahead of where it was last year, and will be better next year. Transplant someone into this now, it will be disaster. We are making progress. Can't believe no one saw that today.

If we were sure of the victory what would be the point of playing the game...do you really want to play Charlestown Southern? Southwestern Missouris State University, Eastern Illinois, College of Dupage? If they were guaranteed wins would you be griping too? I have found in my few years of travel that there are people who will always find a subject to be an activist for...perhaps you should focus on solving problems rather than complaining about them.

And how many did we lose by more than 2 touchdowns?

I personally believe its a generation gap of perception of Notre Dame football, so many of the guys who make up a majority of the active fanbase and online fans did not witness the success of this football program. Im sure a lot of people on this site were too young to remember the last time we won a BCS(wasnt known as BCS at the time) bowl game.

Progress is losing to our rival by 7 points this year rather than 20 points?

The fact the university allowed our program to reach such a level of uncompetitiveness over the years is shocking. Progress for our program is knocking off USC at home, Progress for our program is knocking off Michigan on the road, Progress for our program is showing that with all of the top talent we've brought in that we can put forth an Elite team on the field.

There is no progress in losing, only weaknesses exploited.

Well, if Mr. ChamPEN wants Weis fired, let's get the paperwork drawn up, the buyout check cut, and get the fat guy in here, right now! After all, Mr. ChamPEN has been waiting 5 years.

Look, this team is improving. As pissed off as I am about the loss today, the arrow is still pointing up. No one is HAPPY with a mediocre record. What we are TIRED OF, is the constant changing of the guard. I think it will take 10 wins, for Weis to keep his job this year. But me offering an educated guess as to whether or not Weis will be back next year is nowhere near the same as me supporting the outcome that logic tells me is inevitable.

This team is AHEAD of alot of teams. But they will not be better next year... We lose 4 OL and Clausen and Tate. Clausen is stupid if he stays, look at what has happened to Bradford.

Charlie has to go, his specialty is offense and it shows on the defensive side of the ball. Hes just a glorified offensive coordinator.

Its not about the strength of the teams we are facing, its about the team on the field wearing the Blue & Gold, the coaching they have received thus far, and the player/character development they have received since they stepped on campus.

So.....I underestimated your age...I watched the 1988 National Championship Game...admittedly I was only ten at the time but I remember it...I thoroughly enjoyed watching the teams between 1989 and 1993, don't quite understand why an option team would recruit Mirer or Powlus, but whatever they won...

Before this it is most likely videos and written memories as the greatness of ND and the national championship of 1977 was 9 mos. before I was born...I do remember a bowl era before the BCS and I remember the anger when Florida State was awarded the NC over ND instead of dual championship, I also remember the mediocrity of the Davie/Willingham era's...during that time I never felt that there was much of a chance to win it all, with this administration I get that feeling, and I think it will only get better from here...

Yes, apologizing for the offense (Weis' forte) bailing the defense out, game after game after game. Welcome aboard, probie. I hope this isn't your best stuff

Clausen is coming back. Though he lit it up in the second half, he isn't ready for the NFL yet. He will follow the route of Peyton and stay and graduate.

The constant changing of the guard? We've given Weis 5 years. We gave Davie 5 years. That is enough time to make an impact on the program whether positive or negative.

Do you honestly believe that such a highly respected program nationally like Notre Dame has to undergo a 10 year turnaround into becoming an Elite team again? I hate having to make comparisons but Pete Carroll came into USC and turned them into an Elite Program once again in just 3 years. Urban Meyer did the same at Florida, Richt did the same at Georgia, and Stoops did the same at Oklahoma.

The team is improved from last season and 07' but that is a stretch considering how bad those teams actually were. Notre Dame right now is nothing more than an average team under a huge spotlight nationally.

Which four offensive linemen do we lose...by my count it is three which is a much smaller percentage than 4 of five, and if I am not mistaken Weis has been rotating them in with frequent regularity... gone(Young, Olsen, Duncan)...staying(Robinson, Stewart) Replacing(Wenger, Romine, Dever) what is the problem...we have quality replacements....the beginnings of a program...sign me up

How many of USC's current starters qualified to enter ND, let alone wanted to put up with the academic rigor...you cannot compare us to a USC, or a Florida, Alabama, Texas...our standards are on par with Stanford, Vanderbilt and the Ivy Leagues...stop comparing apples to oranges

Urban Meyer has coached 5 years at florida and has a 48 and 9 record with 2 BCS Championships. This is what we should be looking like, but we settle for giving Charlie another year and see how it works out. CAN HIM, I would settle for anyone else.

OK, all you fire Charlie folks. Who is the answer???? Speak up!!! You better have a damn good one because it is also really easy to go backwards. I hear Kelly in Cinci, so what if he does say NO. Then who???

Frankly, I see the program doing nothing but moving forward. Slowly and surely. I see stability. Good recruiting.

Look around there are really only about 5-6 true elite teams. UF, Alabama, Okla, Tex and USC. Beyond them, most are very close. We are among them and improving.
