With the spring evaulation period in full swing and much of the coaching staff on the recurting trail, do think it's a safe bet to say CW and company know already who the two qb's battling for the open spot. I thought I heard that they would annouce the two near the end of May. Thoughts and comments?

It's all been said before. Clausen & Jones or Clausen & Sharpley depending on Weis' criteria. Sharpley seems to be more accurate (right now), but Jones has whoosh.

I guess we'll know in a few weeks.

And I never heard much buzz about Frazer during spring ball and the Blue & Gold game I would assume sealed his fate with no completions and 1 int.

It HAS all been said before but you got the wrong pairing. I'm 98% positive Jones has NO shot at all. It's its either Clausen and Frazer, or Clausen and Sharpley. But we've posted to much to go into why here again. Look it up! Find something on Jones not hype, and also watch the practice reports on UND.com and such.

You're correct, BGI reported that Weis should announce the final 2 QBs near the end of May. They also believe that the final 2 will include Clausen for various reasons. I think the other will be Sharpley...but who knows?

B&G carried exactly the same weight as any other of the practices, so I doubt such a conclusion is warranted. Especially when he threw what, 4 or 5 total passes? How many has he thrown in practice? I doubt the B&G game will have much affect. As for buzz, there was not really any buzz to share between "the super freshmen" and "the mobile quarterback", both hot topics that people get off on. I know I kinda root for him just because he's the dark horse, but I definately believe Frazer has a better shot than Jones.

Weis is going to look at the body of work. As pointed out, the B&G game is no more significant in the coaching staff's eyes than a regular practice. When you consider that they've got the same # of reps through the spring, plus or minus five repetitions... thats pretty equal if you ask me, and that means they are paying attention to every detail.

I think the consensus opinion is that Clausen is in the final 2. To pretty much everyone, there's just no way that the all-world recruit, who enrolled early, isn't given a shot.

So I think the real question here is, who's the other one, from Jones, Frazer, and Sharpley?

My best guess is, odds are Sharpley, then Jones, then Frazer, but I pretty much change my mind every other day. One day, I'll say Jones' athleticism is too much, then I'll say that Frazier's size and arm is hard to ignore, then the experience factor trumps with Sharpley. We know JC is one of them - and if not, I'll go with the shoulder ailment conspiracy theories, because he's too much of a prodigy to be made 3rd string off the bat. I think we have to wait the next 2-3 weeks patiently, 'cause its simply too hard to tell who the other man is.

I think Clausen and Sharpley, but like CW said after the spring game, no QB has played themself out of contention. So Frazer will still have a chance. Plus, Yeatman dropped some of his passes, so i wouldnt say he was 0/4 or 5. more like 1/4 or 2/5. still not great, but if CW lets 4 or 5 passes make or break his career id be pretty surprised compard to all the other passes hes thrown

I know that at least one ND offensive posistion coach mentioned that he thought it was going to come down to Clausen & Sharpley during one of his recent recruiting trips.

He doesn't sound like he'd welcome to position change, especially with all the young receivers we have he problably wouldn't see the field. I said Clausen/Sharpley battle and now It looks like my vision is coming true. Clausen will dominate and win the job and will be called a bust 1000000 times this year and it's going to be very annoying. As far as Dj and Frazer goes according to Nick he says Frazers father said no way of Frazers transferring because he wants a degree from ND.....Dj I would assume a transfer because he could definently start many other places, but we still don't know if he is out of it yet so we shall see.

I wonder if Frazer would be willing to play another position, say receiver? Just throwing it out there.

The number one thing to remember that Weis is looking at first is how they run the O. If Zach made the correct changes from pass to run at the line, then it might be a big plus for him that he only threw 4 or 5 times. Gallup was right about the drop passes. I think it will be Sharpley and Zach. The reason that Sharpley has been with Weis for two years including backing up Quinn all last year. If it matter how they run the O first and then it is a little harder to tell who will be.
