From SBT

Notre Dame will have its second bowl practice of the postseason on Saturday. That's probably the day it will be revealed whether suspended senior running back Rashon Powers-Neal will be reinstated to the team.

Powers-Neal was suspended by the university following a Oct. 8 arrest in Minnesota for driving under the influence.
At ND's first bowl practice on Dec. 3, injured players Ronald Talley and D.J. Fitzpatrick did not participate in drills. The defensive end and kicker/punter are not expected back until ND's third bowl practice, on Dec. 19.

Injured defensive tackle Pat Kuntz, running back Justin Hoskins, defensive end Chris Frome and linebacker Abdel Banda were all at the Dec. 3 practice, but on exercise bikes.

The Irish are taking finals Dec. 12-16, then are being given two days off Dec. 17-18. ND will practice once on the 19th, twice on the 20th, once on the 21st, twice on the 22nd and once on the 23rd before breaking for Christmas.

I hope he's back, just to make OSU have to prepare for even more offense by CW.

I wonder how much hes been working out and practicing on the side to stay in shape and current with the offense.

The SBT article noted:

"I've been working out on my own since this all happened, because I never knew if I would be able to come back," said Powers-Neal, who hasn't practiced with the team since he was charged.

It happened on 0ct 8. I suspect his work outs have been limited to weight training and running/agility drills. He might have caught some passes from non-teammates and might have banged into a sled alone after hours but, if so, that's all the head banging he's been doing for the past two months.

Today would be his first day with his teammates in two months. Bet the farm he' ready if Charlie unleashes him today. I'm just hoping he doesn't hurt Mayes or Hoyte.

He will not be practicing. His University imposed suspension was for the semester. That's the way it's been in the past. It's not CW's suspension nor his to waive. Apparently Powers-Neal thought it was only through Dec 8 but it's not. See comments below from Weis Press Conference 12/10/05:

Q: Any chance Rashon Powers-Neal will be back for this game?

Coach Weis: He can't, that is a University thing. I am not involved in that. What had come out earlier was a miscommunication. He was done for the semester and there was nothing I could do about that. I understand how that came out, but I talked to him afterwards and he understood that I didn't have a say. At this point, it is out of my hands.

Frome is also done due to his injury.

Q: Is there a chance you will get Chris Frome back for this game?

Coach Weis: There is no chance he will be back for this game.

Sad to see Frome done for the year...especially after the work he put in this year. RPN on the other hand, he blew his chance. I guess good luck with NFL workouts in the spring.
