  • Ohio State and Texas are involved with only one mutual target, massive defensive tackle Joseph Barksdale from Detroit. Barksdale is the nation's No. 18 player and wanted to commit to Mack Brown and Texas but also wanted to visit other schools. Brown basically told him you can't get married and date other women, so no deal. Now it's Notre Dame, Michigan and Ohio State battling it out with Texas for a true commitment if he wants to make one -- and if they have room. Texas has 23 commitments already and is close to done for 2007. They took a commitment from rising defensive tackle Sam Acho after Barksdale's attempt to commit without committing. Barksdale is 6-6 and 323 pounds.
  • The top two wide receivers in the country will be taking their first official visits of the recruiting season this weekend. Washington (D.C) Dunbar stud Arrelious Benn, ranked No. 2, will be at Notre Dame watching their game against Penn State. The Irish have a solid lead for Benn, and this will be his third trip to South Bend. Hempstead, Texas star Terrance Toliver, the nation's No. 1 player at his position, will be at Oklahoma this weekend as the Sooners host Washington. Toliver is harder to read when it comes to favorites as he's also very interested in Southern Cal, Miami, Florida and LSU.
  • In addition to Benn, Notre Dame will be host to quite a few other talented players this weekend. Fellow wide receiver Duval Kamara from New Jersey, who already committed to the Irish, will be on hand as well as athlete Steve Paskorz, another commitment, from Pittsburgh. Offensive linemen Chris Little from Georgia and Emeka Nwankwo from Florida also will be on official visits, as will defensive tackle Ian Williams from Florida. Athlete Harrison Smith from Tennessee also will be on hand. There's a chance that Smith and Nwankwo could commit. All of the aforementioned players are among the top 250 in the nation.
