Should we be a little worried about this guy? He has academic problems in the spring. He starts dropping balls, which apparently he is still doing now in fall practice, which points to a lack of focus because we know he has good hands. He shows up to camp overweight. These things paint the picture of a guy who is not working as hard as he should, who had too much success as a freshman and has since taken it for granted and taken his foot off the accelerator. His comments about trying to be an All-American this season smack of overconfidence. I am probably being unfair, but I can't shake the idea that this guy needs an attitude adjustment. If he works hard and takes care of his business on and off the field he can think about All-American, but right now he seems to be heading in the wrong direction.

He came into camp 4-5 pounds overweight. he's not 15-20 pounds overweight.

how many dropped balls in practice is acceptable? how many has he dropped compared to other players?

i think you're extrapolating from very limited info what could possibly be going on in his mind, and IMO placing a label on him that's not fair.

it's 4-days into fall practices folks. i think we won't know much of anything until the SDSU game is over. Practice is just practice, whether the reports are good or bad. and the info we get from practice reports is one writer's perception of the 20 minutes he/she gets to view everyday.

Speaking of attitude adjustment....

Duval is overweight because he added more muscle to his frame, not because he was lazy or not working hard. In fact, Reuben Mendoza has a list of players body mass and other vital stats outside the weight room in the GUG. Duval actually had one of the better added muscle to one's frame than anyone else on the team!

As for dropping balls in fall practice, this is the first I've heard of this. Since I routinely watched summer workouts and three practices so far in camp, I have not seen this whatsoever!

Academically, Duval is doing fine. The reason he missed some time during the spring was because of a foreign language class. He didn't slip into academic probation at all. So if you are going to browbeat the kid for needing some time away for studies to improve his grade, then I suggest you root for another team.

i don't see anything wrong with him wanting to become an all-american this year. he wants to be the best he can be and he probably feels like he's got all-american talent.

usually i frown upon cocky-ness and overconfidence. However this team needs a litt of that. A little attitude would be refreshing i think. What have the got to lose. Afetr a dismal 2007 Season, I think we can cut him some slack for wanting to be the best at his position. As for the rumors of dropping balls. We're 4 practices in...give me a break.

I don't know what team you watched last year but to say that anybody could be over confident after last season you are terribly wrong!

After watching him break off the line in practice drills, I'm not worried in the slightest. He seems to be one of the few that can get some seperation immediately. I think he's just going to get better this year. Personally, I think Weis made him wear that jersey just to motivate him. Imagine when he and Floyd are lined up! I think I just creamed myself!

What i saw in person on sunday is the three headed monster in training. You have Duval, Floyd an i am telling you know Walker is going to be stud. Next year i don't think Jimmy will be able to throw enough balls. Those 3 are going to make the irish the next 3 to 4 years.

Duval Kamara was back wearing #18 today, so it appears his weight "issues" have resolved.

Does ND have a foreign language requirement?

That is a killer for many students. I also think it is ridiculous. Study after study supports that your brain is open to learning languages at the youngest ages in school, not the last years. I have a straight A kid that struggled in high school and is struggling now in college with that requirement.

If we want a bilingual nation, put the money towards spanish or other languages in the elementary schools.
