Yes. The point is that Sharpley is also making phonecalls in addition to the staff. I have no idea of knowing, but I think he may have kept Grimes on board and also may have won over Hord.

I think it is fairly standard for qb's to help a little with recruiting. They are, after all, the team leaders.
Yep...i agree wasnt our Brady on the comittee of players to help decide the coach?

I wonder why Ty never offered Turk. He's a solid recruit. I guess at the time he was in with Doering Eubanks Moosman and Richardson. But he still should of kept in touch with Turk let him know he was interested. I'm so glad to finally have someone that can recruit, last coach we had who could recruit was Holtz.

The great thing about getting Turk is we stole one from Boston College.

I expect to hear Duncan committed. That kid has been leaning towards the Irish all year.

Duncan has committed as well according to irish today.

Two Linemen Commit

Irish Today has now confirmed what has been rumored since last evening. Pennsylvania's Michael Turkovich (6-7, 280) and Georgia's Paul Duncan (6-6, 280) have become the ninth and tenth commitments to the Irish recruiting class.

"I committed to Notre Dame yesterday," Turkovich told Irish Today.

One player who is very excited to have the duo on board is future quarterback Evan Sharpley. Sharpley attended the weekend's recruiting activities and talked about the commitments of Turkovich and Duncan.

"I'll say this," Sharpley said. "I'm very excited to have two guys like that protecting me. That was something we needed."

Irish Today will have much more on these most recent commitments as well as the entire weekend's activities in Monday's issue.

Duncan's committed too??? EXCELLENT!!! Now if we can get Roche to commit that's a helluva offensive line. And who knows, maybe Charlie can still steal away Eubanks or Doering (or both:)....please please please please please

Excellent. Now that we have two, can we form a full line class? Eubanks has parental pressure to come ND, but Iowa is still high on his list. Brian Roche is still feasible. With the problems at Ohio State and Tennessee, as well as any potential darkhorses the new recruiting staff may be pursuing, I think we could end up with five kids after all is said and done. For example, Kevin Bemoll at OSU was so turned off by their scandal, that he has opened things back up and is looking at other schools. There are going to be several kids like this around the country that are still willing to talk to other schools.

Roche looks good, his stock has been rising. ND needs to recruit NJ better.
ND used to own NJ. I'm very interested to see how Eubanks visit went this weekend.

YES!! Offensive linemen are the key to this year's crop. Losing Doering, Richardson and Moosman hurts, but they're back on track with these two guys. Hord is very talented and will look good along side Nelson. Hopefully this thing pulls together in the end.

GO IRISH!!

I'm floored!!!! This staff is starting to make the impossible, possible. If we can get Stewart and Hord, this will be a great first class for Coach Weis and his staff.

Good article here.

Despite all the positives that Tyrone Willingham was a part of at Notre Dame, recruiting offensive linemen was always an issue. In Charlie Weis’ first big recruiting weekend, landing offensive linemen was a problem no more. Pennsylvania’s Michael Turkovich (6-7, 280) gave his commitment to the Irish this weekend. The standout from Valley Military School was one of the new prospects that Coach Weis and his staff went after.

Turkovich called Irish Today when he returned from his South Bend visit.

“I committed to Notre Dame [on Saturday],” Turkovich said.

Turkovich had several offers from schools like Notre Dame, LSU, Boston College and Wisconsin. What pushed the Irish over the top?

"Coach Weis really," Turkovich said. "I believe in what he believes in and he's got everyone on board to take Notre Dame forward. We're all going in the same direction."

What made the Irish a better fit over other schools that had offered him?

“It was really Notre Dame over Wisconsin and Boston College,” Turkovich said. “Notre Dame was just the right choice and had the right coach for me.”

Turkovich also had a good relationship with his future position coach.

“We talked with Coach Latina a lot,” Turkovich said. “He talked about his style and how he likes to coach the line and I think he’s going to be a great fit with me.”

When it was all said and done, though, it was Coach Weis that really made the biggest impression on him.

“Coach Weis talked about the kind of team he wants to have and where he’s going to take Notre Dame football,” Turkovich said. “We all really believed in what he was saying.”

His family accompanied him on the trip. What did they think of Coach Weis?

“They liked him,” Turkovich said. “My father really believed in what he was talking about.”

He also made a connection with another recruit who also committed to the Irish.

“I spent a lot of time with Paul Duncan,” Turkovich said of the offensive tackle who also committed to Notre Dame this weekend. “He was a really good guy and we spent a lot of time together. It’s going to be fun to play together.”

For Turkovich, the Irish came on late with Coach Weis, but quickly proved to be the best selection for him.

“It’s a relief to have it over with,” Turkovich said. “It’s also great to have my choice be at a great school like Notre Dame.”

After having their stumbles at the position in the past, the Irish are also quite relieved to add a top offensive lineman like Michael Turkovich to the roster.
