Over the past week Notre Dame received verbals from two of the nations top running backs, adding depth to an already loaded backfield. The first came from California standout Cierre Wood, a back that a number of recruiting rankings have as the number one running back in the nation (We’ll see how long that lasts now that he has given his commitment to the Irish ;)). Then just days later New Jersey standout Theo Riddick also gave his verbal commitment to Coach Weis. Riddick is considered a top prospect nationally as well. How did the Irish coaching staff pull of the double whammy?? See both Wood’s and Riddick’s recruiting profile here at IE for more details on their commitments as well as the recent commitments of other key players along the defensive front and elsewhere.

With the commitment of these two quality backs, does this mean the other RB offers are void or will Weis take more?

You would think so, I believe that's it for Runnings backs, but you never know

You have to think that with the limited number of scholarships for 09 no more RB's will be accepted for this class. 2009 needs more lineman on both sides of the ball. And another quality corner. IMP

AlbuquerqueIF, agree we are probably going to pass on the last few backs, even though we extended offers. I believe they are made with the understanding that -we have 2 slots, we have offered you 4 kids, first 2 we take, and if you are not in quick enough, then too bad, so sad. I think thats how it is with many schools.

However, I think it is different with some other schools. Remember last recruiting season(2 months ago) when you read of several kids signing letters but then getting the boot when there was a bigger fish that signed late. I don't see ND doing that. That is probably why you see ND make less offers early on. They don't want to make that mistake.

I believe your right Grizz, Charlie's policy on commitments was if your committed to us then we are committed to you. If you start looking around again, we will start looking around again.

a commitment is your word. and i think charlie really believes that your word is your honor. quality people not just quality players is what he wants.

Probably why so many were frustrated 2 years ago with the last days defections and were quick to get p'ed w OH last year. It is one thing to make a decision you decide is wrong for you and want to go back and change it. it is quite another to specifically lie/mislead people of your decision.

ND starts out with an offer to a recruit and tells him what he must do to accept this offer (be academically qualified, meet student conduct requirements/ standards). They also let them know there are a certain amount of slots at their position and first to accept get them. That is why they offer few at the start. First offer 1 RB, then if he does not sign, offer another, then another. Every time they make another offer out there, they let that 1st choice kid know he is not the only game in town. When they had 5 RBs with offers out there, Wood knew he could be left with nothing. Riddick saw the writing on the wall and grabbed the slot quickly, knowing he could have been aced out of the offer if Taylor or Adams or Hilliard accepted before him. Now these last 3 know they had a chance and let it pass them by. That is life. That is also why teams put out 45 offers when they know there is only 18-19 slots available. JMHO

youre right grizz. i love cw for that. he said this what we are offereing to you and if you dont like it another kid will. but we are offering this many slots at this position so if you dont want to commit now then someone else may take it from you and we are not gonna boot another kid just because you are graded higher. if the other kid is excited to play for us then that is just as important to us

Why haven't we offered this man a scholarship. He has all the attributes one expects of a Notre Dame athlete. I'm afraid if we dally too long, we will lose a great recruit. Anyone feel the same as I do?

This reminds me of the days of old, when we had the stables full. It's great! Get while you can.
