Lawyers representing a former college football player on Thursday filed an antitrust lawsuit against the NCAA that challenges the association’s rules requiring many Division I athletes who transfer to sit out a year before playing at their new school.

The case — which also seeks an end to the NCAA’s scholarship limits — was filed in a federal court in Indianapolis, where the NCAA is headquartered. It is being led by a Seattle-based law firm that has several cases pending against the NCAA, including one basically centered on the scholarship limits.

It's taken far too long for scholarship limits to have been challenged. Title IX and scholarship limits are the biggest injustice in college sports... not players getting paid.

Transfer rules need to exist in some sort, because otherwise the whole system becomes chaos. You'd have big schools directly recruiting from small schools without them... if a player showed out at Central Michigan, the Michigan State coach would come calling and maybe even have them transfer in the middle of the season. You have to have some sort of transfer rules in place.

There shouldn't be a penalty for transferring if a head coach left the program. A lot of kids commit to the coaches and not the school .

I disagree. Following that logic, you would have to drop all penalties for academic issues. I mean, a lot of kids come to showcase their talent for the NFL, not to get an education. Change the rule, and all you will do is encourage kids to go to school for the wrong reason(s).

Ship sailed on that one a long time ago.

There are millions of teenagers doing heroin. Does that mean that you would tell your kids that its ok to do it?

I believe you can transfer without penalty if a head coach leaves.
