Hughes #2 back, Wood is 3

Goodman and Kamara have switched positions (good call McGriff)

Goodman also starting punt returner now

Bennett Jakson to possibly get looks as KO returner

Everything else remains the same so far

Figure Wood would drop in depth chart.. Let see how he responds, will he work hard and earn it back or will he take his ball and go home? By the way, where are all the kool-aid Wood drinkers that were so quick to rip Allen apart at?

I'm really disappointed in Wood, he really hasnt shown up since the Purdue game, i like his attitude, but if he needs to be moved for the team to succeed, so be it.

Glad Kelly got my VM about the RB changes. You go HUGHES!!! My prediction for the running game this week is a man-beast named HUUUUGHHHHES!!!

Hughes impresses me as the type of player who will just take this 4 game benching as a reason to explode!!!

I've never seen anyone rip Allen in favor of Wood. I thought Wood would turn into a very explosive No. 2 runner, but AA will be the man.

Wood is going through a rough patch right now, but let's also remind ourselves that he's only carried the ball 9 times over the past 3 games.

Maybe Hughes comes in and plays well, but I have little faith in him.

HUGHES, If he gets the running game rollin again good for him if not, then who's to blame? Maybe AA needs some practice not falling over his shoelace on every carry!?

I could quote 3 or 4 people that wanted Wood to start because he was the flavor of the week.

He's got to get there mentally. When he does, he'll see the field again

MEF,
What the hell games have you been watching all year. AA has been the most consistent performer on Offense all season. He is getting big yards after contact. Bashing of Allen will not be tolerated. He is all our running game.

That was last season. This season I see AA lowering his head and finishing his runs. He's been the most consistent player on offense all season. Let's try posting without bold, italics, and underlines.

NM. I'm glad, these are a lot of the changes I've wanted to see. Goodman and Hughes might not be the most talented players on the team, but they've got heart.

I am really glad to see Goody getting more reps.

Not sold on Hughes, never have been. Big guy that doesn't deliver punishment to the defense. I hope he will be different from now on but what was said earlier is probably true, he will be in on passing downs to pick up the LB or DE that gets past the Oline.

Liked what I saw but would like to see more new blood. I would turn them loose to make mistakes but play with their hair on fire. Team's still playing like they're in the classroom. Man this is recess let it all hang out-go for it. The horse is now out of the barn so lets just play fast and loose-whats to lose. Hope Hughes has some great success pounding the ball. I Like him and Filer.

For all of the offseason conditioning, we really don't rotate wide receivers through the game much. I rarely see Toma, Duval, or Goodman in the game.

Legit speed. Shifty runner. Showed glimpses of his talent as a gunner on KO's. I like the move until Wood gets his head in the game.

I just love how the "kool-aid" reference is so overused and is often used completely out of context. You see, Jim Jones' followers were part of a cult and mindlessly followed his words based on his ability to manipulate and "brainwash". Some would argue they were weak minded and not responsible for their actions because they were coaxed in to moving to some God-foresaken jungle and then drinking poisoned fruit drink in order to achieve enlightenment or whatever it was that Jim Jones was preaching about.

Like so many others on here, I am not mindless or brainwashed. Additionally, I am a pretty big and strong dude so no one forces me or manipulates me to do anything I do not want to do.

Now, as it relates to the topic of the thread, I was not blind or myopic in my assessment of Woods. I did not base my opinions solely on what I read on recruiting sites or other internet blogs. Like some of my other Southern California breathren, I saw him with my own eyes live and in person. I based my somewhat educated assessment of him based on those viewings. Has it panned out yet the way I thought it would? No. But that doesn't make me a so called "Kool-Aid" drinker? No. It doesn't even really apply.

I'm not bashing on you. It's just that the Kool-Aid reference is completely played out and is often used completely out of context. It gets a little old. Furthermore, people also tend to forget that the reference was spawned from the deaths of 909 people - many of whom were children that weren't given a choice of whether or not to drink. Seems kind of crude when you think about it that way.

Although your history of the "Kool-Aid" incident is correct. It has evolved and here is the meaning. Urban Dictionary-Kool Aid Drinker

And according to that definition, it implies directly to the Wood topic.

But for the record I believe in Wood, and he can turn into a good back in the future. He is not on the level of AA yet, in the sense of an all around player.

I agree with you. Way over used and, let's face it, annoying. I'd like to blame it on a certain political wing, but no need to bring that up here. Let's just agree that "drinking the kool-aid" has become used so much that it has now lost most of its meaning.

GO IRISH: There are two meanings to the term "Drinking the Kool-Aid. One is unquestioningly following orders or adopting positions that are harmful, as with Jim Jones. The other is a reference to Ken Kesey and the Merry Pranksters and events they staged in the early to mid 60's called "Acid Tests." LSD-laced Kool-Aid was provided. (LSD was legal in the U.S. until 1966). "Drinking the Kool-Aid" in that context meant taking LSD. [See Tom Wolfe's The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test. The implication is that those who drank the Kool-Aid experienced hallucination and delusions.

I lean toward the earlier of the two references due to my age and experience. It strikes me as a more appropriate take on the phrase as most often used. That and Jim Jones didn't use Kool-Aid to deliver his despicable poison.

Just a picky-*** historical point.

The Grateful Dead provided the music for the Acid Tests in San Francisco.

True. Good find. However, the origins still remain the same. Plus, it implies one who just buys in to a way of thinking and follows the group. Just because I got behind Wood and thought he would play ahead of Armando was based on my personal viewing of him. That is what I was saying.

It is also just way overused on this site. Weis had Kool-Aid drinkers. If you thought the team would win a NC in '09 (as many said they would) you were drinking Kool-Aid. It can be used for any belief, but it really pertains to following the masses. I hardly think there were masses of people saying Wood would be incredible this year.

I was one of them. I was wrong up to this point in the season. I really thought he would hit the field and put up 1000 yards this year. Oh well. There have been a lot of players I thought would be studs and turned out to be busts. I will say it again - I was wrong about Wood. It isn't the first and it surely won't be the last.

Oh well.

Now, if it is about Acid, why didn't ya just say so? Maybe me and NDOM should take tests like that!

And that is true that Jim Jones actually used Flavor Aid, but it is often referred to as Kool-Aid. I like the acid explanation much better. I am going to go with that from now on.

Carry on.
