Fellow Irish fans,

Yesterday marked the three year anniversary of Declan's passing. The energy he carried with him in life has been passed on through the Declan Drumm Sullivan Memorial Fund. Declan's parents set up this fund as a way to honor his life, and they have partnered with an educational program in Chicago called Horizons for Youth. This program sponsors inner city students, providing needs based scholarships, mentoring, and other enrichment programs.

- If you have a moment, please take a look through this website commemorating Declan's life and showing the impact his Memorial Fund has had for Chicago students.

- "Declan's 40" - These are 40 new students who were accepted into the Horizons for Youth program as a result of the money raised by the memorial fund.

If you wish to donate to the Fund, follow the links at the website. I know Declan's parents would greatly appreciate any and all help.

Declan was a great friend of mine. I worked alongside him at ND for two years as a fellow student videograper, and was there the day he passed. I remember it like it was yesterday. The many stories published after his death detailing his spirit and energy were all spot on. He lived life to the fullest, and was a joy to work and live with. He inspired many, and has been a personal inspiration to me, as I am now serving as a teacher to the same sorts of students Declan's Memorial Fund is serving.

The events following Declan's death made me proud to be a part of Notre Dame. The way the campus community and wider Notre Dame family came together to support the Sullivan family was incredible. It has had a great impact on my life, and I want to be able to continue honoring his memory. I only hope this message can do that and be able to help some young kids who need it most. At the very least, say a prayer for his family. I know this must be a difficult time.

Thank you for any and all support.

Go Irish.
Celebrate Life.

Today is the tenth anniversary of Declan's tragic accident.

There are innumerable articles, an E:60 documentary, and other stories about Declan's life and the way in which his family has responded with grace and faith and inspiration for us all. I thought the E:60 was very well done, and would recommend it highly.

As noted in my post from 2013, the Horizons for Youth program sets up mentorships with youth from inner-city Chicago, providing assistance from kindergarten through college. "Declan's 40" has grown into "Declan's 100" and counting, and some of the students in the first classes are graduating now.

The link below provides more information about the Horizons for Youth program. Please read and please consider making a small donation if you feel so called.

As noted in my post above, Declan had a huge impact on me during and after undergrad. I taught several years in an underprivileged area, and now my journey has found me back at ND. I am very blessed.

Below is an image from today, at the memorial garden created in Declan's honor outside of the Gug. There are benches nearby with words from his sister and brother. I'm not sure who put the flowers there, but I am glad that someone has also remembered him this day.

As Declan's sister posted on her Facebook page in the hours after his death, "Celebrate Life."
