So he didnt like how ND fired Ty? So it would only make sense to goto Florida who didnt even wait till Zook's third year was over. Just goto Florida, stop dragging it on. Its to the point I want him to leave. This is all a power play to make this little kid feel special, he's just dragging it out to keep the spotlight on himself. If your coming, come, if not get the F#$% out.

Yup. Maybe he's hoping we'll pull the offer so he won't feel guilty. I would love for Weis to win the SuperBowl and then find out what this kid is thinking as he watches the game.

This kid is such a jackass. I think Hord is better anyway, plus they've still got Grimes who I think can be a decent player. That's enough recieving talent for one class, let this brat go to Florida. I wish Weis would just pull his offer....

Here is my question.

What does he offer that Jeff Samardzilla doesn't? They, too me, look like the same type of guy. Tall, lank, body control type of guys that can abuse smaller corners.

I've said for awhile that I think we should yank the offer to make a statement that this isn't the same Notre Dame and we don't take kindly to those who waiver on their commitments.

EXACTLY RIGHT. Jeff looked pretty good when he played in the Oregon State game, and I think he will be really good this year. He has shown he isnt scared to go for the ball and will use his body if he needs to. He is the same size as Nelson more or less, so if Nelson chooses to be a Gator, fine with me. Jeff can only get better, and he already has game experience.

A week ago I wouldn't of agreed with you. But now I do. if I'm Weis I put it all on the line and say Nelson either your with us or not, make up your mind..

I don't care if Nelson leaves, were going to get possibly two athletes in Bennett, and McCarthy.

Plus I'm sure this staff will bring in a stud WR next year.

I just hope Nelson makes up his mind after his visit this weekend to florida, I hear Texas has offered him, I'll be annoyed if he goes to a visit there. Just make up your mind already kid.

ND is a great choice right now education, and its clear Weis is getting the football team back to elite status. If nelson can't see this then be gone!

He's not even listed as a soft commit on Scout. Did he totally de commit all of a sudden.

Maybe McCarthy was offered because the staff felt Nelson is gone. Ianello met with Nelson in a in home visit yesterday then today McCarthy gets offered. Maybe Ianello felt Nelson wasn't coming to ND after there meeting.

Just a thought...

Very good analysis and insight... You could be right.

To me, I see a soft verbal as 50% and a solid verbal as 75%, so when Nelson said he was a 30% chance for Notre Dame, I wouldn't consider him a soft verbal either.

Oh well, I hope he does go to Florida and sits behind Butt-Tang and the other 40 receivers. I want guys that bleed Irish. I do know that if Nelson comes to Notre Dame, I won't be able to root for him personally.

I'm with you Svoboda. If Nelson, after pulling all this BS, trying to keep the spotlight on himself, If he does come to ND I can't see myself cheering for him. The kid should goto Florida, and get over himself.

Pats' win Sunday Irish's loss Monday - Recruit can't meet Weis, opts for Florida

By Teddy Greenstein

David Nelson watched Sunday's Patriots-Steelers game knowing his future could depend on the outcome—as it did.

Nelson, a highly regarded wide receiver from Wichita Falls, Texas, had spoken to Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis about 48 hours before kickoff, telling him he wouldn't sign with the Irish unless Weis visited his home for a face-to-face meeting.

"If I'm going to go that far away, 16 hours away, I need to feel comfortable with the head coach," Nelson said Tuesday, a day after he announced he would attend Florida. "And he knew that."

Weis told Nelson if the Patriots lost, he would fly to Texas this week. But if New England won, he would not be able to break away from Super Bowl preparation for a home visit.

Instead, Weis told Nelson he would send seven Irish assistants—the maximum number the NCAA allows on the road at one time—to Wichita Falls.

Nelson, who had committed orally to Notre Dame in July but reconsidered after the school fired Tyrone Willingham, was impressed but unmoved.

Receivers coach Rob Ianello already had spent time in the Nelsons' living room. And Nelson knew offensive coordinator Michael Haywood from his days as a University of Texas assistant. What Nelson wanted was face time with the head coach.

"Anybody can say on the phone: 'We will take care of you,'" Nelson said. "For my dad to be comfortable sending me somewhere, he needed to be able to look a head coach in the eyes and say: 'This is my son. What are you going to do for him? What do you stand for?'"

Nelson and his father found that comfort level with Florida coach Urban Meyer, whom Notre Dame wanted to hire after dismissing Willingham. A day after the Patriots crushed the Steelers, Nelson committed to Florida.

Thus Notre Dame lost perhaps its best recruit, a playmaker who runs a 4.45-second 40-yard dash and carries a 3.8 grade-point average at Rider High School. ESPN.com analyst Tom Lemming rates the 6-foot-5-inch Nelson as the nation's sixth-best receiver. Rivals.com has him 27th.

Coaches are not allowed to comment on recruits until National Signing Day on Feb. 2, but Weis and Notre Dame knew there could be conflicts in the recruiting schedule if the Patriots reached the Super Bowl.

"That was calculated into the program," said John Heisler, an associate athletic director at Notre Dame. "We also knew that in terms of visibility, there would be some very positive things if the Patriots' season went on for a while.

"Charlie was adamant about wanting to finish that job [in New England] and everyone here appreciated that."

Weis is likely to be in South Bend this weekend for a recruiting weekend. He was also on campus the first weekend of the NFL playoffs, when the Patriots had a bye.

Although Patriots coach Bill Belichick is said to demand about 15 hours a day from his assistants, Weis has managed to put together a respectable first recruiting class.

Lemming rates the class 24th. Rivals.com has it 35th.

"They have averted disaster," Lemming said, "and almost all the credit goes to Weis. It seems like he's called every guy in the country. I've never seen anything like that."

Lemming estimated Weis has made 500 calls to recruits, coaches and parents. A lot of that diligence should pay off a year from now.

As for Nelson, he's excited about playing for Meyer. And he doesn't wish the Patriots had lost to the Steelers.

"No, I was pulling for them," he said. "I'd never expect or want a coach to lose a game."
