I played soccer for years, so did my wife, so does my daughter...but I don't like watching it.
If Beckham's wife starts playing soccer for the US team...albeit naked...then I will watch it.

he'll be the higest paid US athlete making around 250 million dollars in salary and endorsements over 5 years.. 50 million a year for a guy whose career is clearly on the decline is way too much money.

Just to be picky, he is British, so he won't be the highest paid US athlete... but moving on Tiger Woods made over 76 mill last year.

WOW!!! ive been reading this thread for a couple of days now and im probably the only one on this board that loves football and soccer equally. i dont care if L.A. galaxy overpaid for him and all that BUT, for the future of the kids growing up in this generation that love or just like soccer its HUGE. how americans feel about MLS soccer is comparible to how europeans feel of NFL europe. imagine if Ray Lewis or Torry Holt went to NFL Europe, it would be a big deal.
when PELE played for the cosmos, american soccer was not yet stable and folded only after a couple of years. MLS has been around for almost 10-15yrs i believe. more stadiums are being built just for soccer. more american soccer players are getting a chance to play on teams in Europe. Beckham could be what the US needed to get american soccer to the next level.
just my 2 cents.
