Darius was ineffective, to put it in a nice way. The whole day he made like one guy miss and broke barely uneffictive.... I got home and watched the Nebraska and USC game and both teams backs were making people miss and braking tackles. Darius looked terrible and out of place. He did nothing with the ball.

It's not easy when you have to make your first cut 4 yards behind of the line of scrimmage. I don't think Hart would have ran any more than 4 yards with no where to run either. I think the OL -Sam Young should be trashed this week. Were real lucky that Quinn walked off the field yesterday, he took a real beating.

C'mon. Sam, a real bright spot in the future of this team, who played, by the way, another very good game, should be trashed?
Methinks thou doth judge too harshly.

leave darius alone.........he was ineffective because the irish where down so quickly and had to become one dimential on offense........and he had more than 4 yrds........the irish total was so low becuase all of the sacks......which also came from the irish being forced to pass most the time cuz the defecit in points............read charlies presser.........the 5 turnovers lead to 24 points for them without really having to do a whole lot.....THAT COST US THE GAME more than everyones grudge with darius.......you cant give navy 24 points and epecxt to win...................

I am a big darius fan, but I think the problem with him in that kind of situation is that he is not a big play threat. Being that far down they stil needed to stick to the run to keep the Michigan D honest, but Michigan was willing to accept Darius' 4 yard runs being up double digits.

Yep, right on. Gameplay hurt DWalker's success running the ball big time. Being so far behind hurts the number of run plays we can run with Walker and they knew when those instances were going to be, which further contributed to his low total. Not little D's fault...just a side-effect of that game.

Why don't we have two "go-to" backs ? With a third to use occasionally ?
Why didn't Travis Thomas play on offense more ?
I don't like relying on the pass so much. Luckily, enough passes were caught to run some drives successfully.
Running + Passing = Balance.

Why do we have this thread this week. (Oh, and I like the fact that the poster to start it this week after a loss was never here to discuss his contributions after wins)

People. This o-line does not open holes. Period. Darius, as mentioned above, is making his first cuts in the backfield. Only Barry Sanders ever thrived under that situation.

Quit posting the damn Darius hate fests every week. If other players did their jobs like he does, this would be a better football team.

My sentiments exactly! Lack of prodction was a direct effect of the point deficit and their D-line playing one hell of a game.

Tough to say. Against PSU he ran for 56 yards on 20 carries. 2.8/avg
Against UM 25 yards on 10 carries. 2.5 avg

So against a tough D-Line he is going no where? Oof...we are in for a long season then.

Honestly, you are correct. Our O-line has not shown the ability to get a push against a tough D-line. Now, tough is a relative term, of course, and in reality, we've probably faced three of the four toughest D-lines on the schedule.

The argument some are trying to make is that very few RB's, no matter who or how fast, would have done much with the holes the line has given over the past three weeks.

Yeah...the only difference is that a fast back could stretch out the field East-West. DW just does not have that speed.

However, behind a crappy O-Line the best back in the world will go nowhere.

Even faster backs would have trouble on many of those plays. Penetration or push by the D-line disrupts speed by taking away their room to get moving.

The only back I ever saw do something with nothing on a regular basis was Barry Sanders.

I think a power running game would work wonders for this offense by keeping defenses honest and setting up the play action pass. As it is now, defenders would laugh at a play action attempt. And the answer for a power running game lies not with the style of back, but with better push from the interior line.
