Life couldn't be sweeter today....(well, ok, McCoy could have pleasantly surprised us)....a calm, efficient and awesome LOID day and this....
--------------
Miami fans are in full meltdown mode over their recruiting class, and it's lack of Wr's, Coker's coaching, and Shalala's comments. President Shalala doesn't seem to understand that Miami fans want nothing to do with raising the academic standards for their football players. That program wasn't built on guys with 3.4's in molecular biology. Those are things that matter on the cocktail circuit of academia. Miami fans want kids who run really really fast and hit really hard. If they can read and write all the better but those are not viewed as essential requirements for those members of the football program.
Good luck taming that herd Donna.
------
UM president Donna Shalala laughed off valid grumblings by coaches that UM's academic standards have created significant obstacles in recruiting: ``Privately, coaches and recruiters say such things openly all over the country. . . . We are not going to admit every student-athlete.''
Shalala, incidentally, doesn't believe UM fans expect too much from the football team. ''In fact, I see my job as insisting we constantly raise expectations.'' She said she had no role in the firing of four assistants and supports head coach Larry Coker: ``I'm personally very fond of him, and his overall record for us is excellent.''
