Consensus for James Wilson- Is he Irish or Trojan?

I could have posted this on his recruiting thread.....but I didn't want others to feel like I had some breaking news/update on the lad. That's Svo and Jigga's territory. Just wanted to get some gut-feelings on where you think this talent will end up. Could be one of the best ever to play guard at Du Lac.........would be a huge loss to the nemesis.

Ethnicity? Neither. As to where he plays, I think ND has a slight edge, irrespective of the dad influence. Let's hope he is a Mama's Boy! :starwars:

It kills me to say it, but I think he heads USC's way. Dad will be the deciding factor for him. Sucks too, cause he's gonna be a real punisher at LG.

No, feel free to post in the prospects threads. That's what they're there for. That said, I'm hoping that he had enough of a cool down period after seeing USC to come back full circle to Notre Dame.

That said, it doesn't look good. There has been discussion on new linemen getting offers, which generally means Notre Dame thinks they may be losing someone.

The offers might be because Ryan Miller will end up at Colorado. I am still holding onto my hope for Wilson, but then again I may be a fool's hope.

Well, the good news is that if James Wilson does commit to USC, then we will have officially hit rock bottom of this recruiting year, and then things can only get better..

If SC grabs Wilson, chances are we won't beat them or Texas for the #1 spot in recruiting rankings--not that it's such a big deal, so long as we get what we need.

We already beat USC head to head for the biggest name in recruiting this year. Because it was awhile ago, the luster has worn off.

We're recruiting against USC now. Our rise doesn't mean their fall. They are still going to get their players. We're going to win some. We are going to lose some.

This rivalry is getting interesting again.

Keep in Mind...

Keep in Mind...

I don't know about "rock bottom." Here's who they have offered and lost out on thus far. These are verbals, by the way. No one has signed anything to our knowledge:

OG Tray Allen 6-4/305/5.3 Grand Prairie, TX Texas
ATH John Chiles 6-1/195/4.4 Mansfield, TX Texas
DE Sidell Corley 6-4/250/4.8 Mobile (AL) Florida
ILB Chris Galippo 6-3/235/4.6 Anaheim, CA Southern Cal
CB Marcus Gilchrist 5-11/175/4.45 High Point , NC Clemson
RB Kelvin Grady 5-10 156 East Grand Rapids, MI Michigan
DT Andre Jones 6-4/305/5.66 El Paso, TX Texas
DE D'Angelo McCray 6-5/265/4.64 Jacksonville, FL Florida
OT Josh Oglesby 6-7/315/- Milwaukee, WI Wisconsin
DE Michael Reardon 6-6/245/4.7 Villa Park (CA) Orange Luthern USC
RB Brandon Saine 6-0/200/4.4 Piqua, OH Ohio State
OT Trinton Sturdivant 6-6/285/5.1 Wadesboro, NC Georgia
WR Nick Sukay 6-3/200/4.5 Greensburg (PA) Central Catholic Penn State
RB Marc Tyler 6-0/215/4.5 Westlake Village, CA USC

3 of those guys, plus Wilson are O linemen. That was the most impressive haul of last year's class and if they take 4-5 O linemen they will be quality players. Miller is going to visit for the UCLA game. That could swing ND into the lead. There is Nwankwo, Romine, Ziemba, Matt Summers Gavin...all coming into the mix.

I look at that list and see four names who weren't offensive linemen I'm really disappointed that they could not get:

Chris Galippo
Marcus Gilchrist
Andre Jones
Marc Tyler

Many of the big targets are still on the board. They have not made official visits yet. ND still has not played a down in 2006 yet. They look sharp with Hughes, Benn, Little, Romine, Nwankwo, Blackwell, Tez Wilson, Dailey, Michael Williams, Mark Barnes, Gary Gray and others.

It isn't even August yet and one year ago in August ND raked in some pretty good ballplayers:

Bartley Webb
Demetrius Jones
Raeshon McNeil

Keep in mind that on this date in 2005, ND had 9 verbals. They have 8 right now.

It's all good.

Very good post. Also keep in mind how important these first few games are going to be. Recruits are still in a wait and see mode in many cases, which is fair. I'm sure opposing coaches are reminding them of our 03 and 04 seasons following a nice 02. Once again, fair enough.

The spotlight will be on the Irish early. A 4-0 or even 3-1 start could go a long way toward a great class. There are some talented players that are on the fence. There are even some big names out there that we may not think the coaches are in on. Once again, Sam Young was a pipe dream at this point last season. I don't think many expected Reuland either.

One nice thing is, the big recruiting weekend may come early this year with a lot of guys coming in for the Michigan game. Which is also nice considering some of those guys may also be considering Michigan. A win that day, with a great atmosphere could work wonders for the future of the program.

Very good post.

I slept at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Also saved a bunch of money on my car insurance by switching to Geico.

Not everyone can be Texas and fill their class by August. There are plenty of home games this year for official visits. Clausen, Kumara and Benn are visiting for the Michigan game. So is Gary Gray. That is a HUGE weekend, depending on who else shows up.

How about getting Benn and Gray verballed in the same week? Same month would be sufficient for me.

I don't like losing out on these O linemen either, but there are other guys out there that they can get. Let's see what Wilson says. You never know. If it is that close, he can still change his mind come February.

I'm assuming you meant 2005.

also keep in mind that of the 9 verbals the Irish had last year at this time, there were a few that jumped on board early that might not have been taken had the staff known who they'd be competing for by february. the 8 verbals this year have been taken with an even higher degree of selectivity.

Correct. I fixed the error.

Apparently, I didn't sleep all that well at the Holiday Inn Express.

Also a very good point. Remember passing over Terrance Austin and Butch Lewis? It won't happen again.

The outcome of that Michigan game could be the high-water mark for the 2007 recrutiting class. Aren't Michael Williams and Ronald Johnson also planning on attending. This could be especially significant for RoJo and help tip the scales, since UMI is the main competition. If they should lose that game, I may end up spending the night at a Holiday Inn, since I won't be fit to live with!

Can you say Condum looks like we lost one boys. The condums get more of our players. We need to reverse the tide and get theirs.
