GE, Comcast announce NBC Universal joint venture deal - Dec. 3, 2009

So, how does Comcast buying NBC affect the program? Surely, Comcast will want to leverage the OBVIOUS national interest in the program - They could add several more hours of exclusive ND programming on the cable networks they own. Recap/higlight shows, ND classics (something that amazingly hasn't been tapped yet), coaches shows, recruiting stuff, etc.

Some rumors surfaced of ND games being moved to Versus. Frankly, I don't know what the hell NBC has going, programming wise, on Saturday afternoons in the fall that generates more interest (15 year-old replays of "The Lighter Side of Sports with Mike Golic"??).

Don't hold your breath. I was a comcast subscriber for years and they continually cut back on programing and content.

Game replays will be moved to VS, so far. They would make a huge mistake to move all game there.

Thanks for the clarification. I was curious about why Comcast would do something so foolish. On the other hand, I wouldn't be shocked if Comcast doesn't renew ND's broadcast rights when they expire.

Well.........if ND hires a big name coach, like Stoops, ratings will be back up again, for at least a couple of years. Just the "newness" of a top tier coach, combined with the history and tradition of ND, will generate ratings.

The more mergers the less quality. No wonder the FCC is under investigation.

Does this mean NBC will no longer be on DirecTV?

No doubt. I'm screwed if the games move to Versus or if NBC won't be allowed on DirecTV. I guess I'll still have the NFL Ticket to look forward to every Fall.

WE'll see...I wonder if it is possible for ND to cut a deal with one of the networks already dedicated to conference atheletics...e.g. the big 10 Network or the Big East Network. Big East would be my vote since they could use the push, and thats where we live in basketball and baseball anyway...and no, not saying join the conference...just find a mutually beneficial broadcast deal...I really am not sure how it would work but there are options...Hell, why not go straight to Direct TV and Dish, and work out the ND network...then we get all the sports...thats my favorite option...I'd buy that no matter the cost.

i agree. i really hope that they don't switch the games to Versus as I have direct tv and really don't want to switch to comcast.

i think if comcast doesn't re-up the contract, another network will. ND has a true national following and i think the ratings justify it, if you figure 80% of the viewers watching are ND fans. (random guess)
