They are already screaming racism at Texas A&M. Because no black coaches were interviewed... I mean if they found the guy they wanted with the first interview, what the heck is the point wasting everyone elses time?

Hmmm. I wonder how the College Station University GOLF COURSE is. This could be a job for TY!

Well, word is that Nutt would have been fired if he'd lost to LSU, but after they won they offered him a 2 year extention.

Really? So Nutt really did walk away on his own terms, it wasn't one of those forced resignations.

Reportedly he already knew he was out if he lost to LSU, so when they changed their tune because of one game he basically told them screw you, and that it was best for everyone to move on.

Arkansas</TD><TD>Oakland Raiders coach Lane Kiffin and Arkansas have a mutual interest in the school's coaching vacancy. However, some believe that his contract with Al Davis will be too difficult to escape. Meanwhile, the school is busy trying to figure out how to pay Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville's buyout to lure the Tigers coach to Hog Land. Other names being bandied about: Texas Tech coach Mike Leach and North Carolina coach Butch Davis. </TD></TR>

Duke</TD><TD>Duke has shown some interest in Tennessee offensive coordinator David Cutcliffe, who's in his second stint with the Vols. Cutcliffe was the head coach at Mississippi from 1999-2004. He took the Rebels to four bowl games and earned a share of the SEC Western Division championship in 2003 before being fired following a 4-7 season the next year. Tennessee may also seek to sweeten Cutcliffe's deal, which pays him $340,000 annually, to entice him to stay in Knoxville. </TD></TR>

Michigan</TD><TD>LSU athletic director Skip Bertman confirmed Wednesday night through spokesman Herb Vincent that his Michigan counterpart, Bill Martin, has officially requested permission to speak with Les Miles about becoming the next coach of the Wolverines.
Bertman requested that the meeting not take place until after LSU plays Tennessee Saturday for the SEC championship. Martin told Bertman he will comply.
LSU will have its own meeting with Miles next week to make its pitch to keep Miles. Sources say Miles will be offered a sweetened deal. Although formal discussions will wait for next week, a source close to the situation said Miles' agent, George Bass, was in Baton Rouge Wednesday meeting with LSU officials. The subject of those talks is unknown.

Nebraska</TD><TD>Buffalo head coach Turner Gill and LSU defensive coordinator Bo Pelini are the final two candidates for the Nebraska coaching job, ESPN.com has learned. A final decision and subsequent announcement are expected soon, perhaps by Thursday, according to sources familiar with the search. Nebraska interim athletic director Tom Osborne, who is conducting the search, was phoning others to apprise them Wednesday that the process was winding to a close. Pelini reportedly interviewed with Osborne -- where he apparently didn't wow Osbourne -- in Baton Rouge on Sunday, while Gill might have interviewed Monday. Osborne was in Atlanta Monday, which is where Parker Executive Search -- the firm hired by Nebraska to assist with the search -- is headquartered.
A source close to Wake Forest indicated that coach Jim Grobe interviewed with Nebraska in Atlanta on Nov. 26.

Southern Miss</TD><TD>One of the leading candidates for the vacant Southern Miss head coaching job is Florida State offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher. While at LSU, Fisher helped groom JaMarcus Russell into the top pick in last year's NFL draft. Fisher is in his first year with the Seminoles as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Another name to watch is South Carolina defensive coordinator Tyrone Nix, who played and coached at Southern Miss. There was also some contact with Auburn defensive coordinator Will Muschamp, but Muschamp isn't believed to be interested. </TD></TR>

John L. Smith interested in Washington State job
Thursday, Nov 29, 2007 7:58 am EST

John L. Smith, who has been head football coach at four universities including Louisville and Michigan State, says he is "definitely interested" in the Washington State vacancy.

Smith, 59, has a 132-86 record at Idaho, Utah State, Louisville and Michigan State and was an assistant at Washington State and Idaho. He was fired last year after his fourth season at Michigan State, where he was 22-26 overall but was Big Ten coach of the year his first season.

"I spent years on the Palouse," Smith said. "That's where my kids grew up. It was a great place."

Good luck with that WSU

One more I have run across is that SMU just about has Navy's Paul Johnson locked up for what would be considered a very big contract for a C-USA school.

SPURRIER TO LSU?

We're hearing increasing talk that if LSU coach Les Miles leaves to take the coaching job at Michigan, Steve Spurrier would be the man for the job at LSU.
LSU apparently wants a coach who has proven he can win at the highest level of college football, and Spurrier certainly qualifies on that score.
The down side, of course, is that Spurrier's coaching star doesn't shine as brightly as it did when he was at Florida. His unsuccessful tenure with the Redskins and his current five-game losing streak at South Carolina have done a lot to make people question whether he really is a coaching genius.
Several reports have said Spurrier was on the campus of Duke yesterday meeting with Athletic Director Joe Alleva, but no one should conclude that he's a candidate to replace the recently fired Duke head coach Ted Roof. If Spurrier is going to leave South Carolina, it will be for a place where he thinks he can win a national championship.

No contract is signed, but Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville appears prepared to accept Arkansas's offer to become the Razorbacks' next football coach, multiple sources tell ArkansasSports360.com.

The official annoucement may not come until Saturday. Negotiations continue for some of Tuberville's wishes concerning assistant coaches pay and other details about football operations.

Other organizations are also now reporting it, including KNWA-TV in Fayetteville.

The 53-year-old Tuberville, a native of Camden, was the finalist for the Arkansas job in 1997 when the position eventually went to Houston Nutt. Nutt left the job Monday, after 10 years, to become head football coach at Ole Miss. Tuberville was Ole Miss' coach at the time Arkansas first came courting. He left Ole Miss for Auburn after the 1998 season.

Arkansas Sports 360.com:  UPDATE: Tuberville Is Arkansas' Choice

It also might come as early as tomorrow from what I've heard.

That's what I thought, but I believe he's from Arkansas and he was up for the job but didn't get it back when Houston Nutt was hired. So maybe it's his dream job, who knows.

Tuberville is from Camden, AR. He graduated from Southern Ark.

Look at it this way. You're the Auburn coach & you've beaten Alabama six straight times, yet you still get paid less than the Alabama coach. Then, God forbid, you lose to Alabama next year & how quickly the fans forget about the 6 wins in a row over your hated instate rival. So now you're back on the hot seat after dominating your rival & turning in recent seasons of 13-0 & 11-2.

Is it worth all the stress & grief that he'll constantly be under now that Alabama is lead by a formidable coach? By going to AR, he'll still get paid handsomely, be back "home" & still have the opportunity of beating Alabama every year w/o the "hot seat" implications (or, worse, the death threats).

Tuberville is probably my favorite coach in the SEC. Down to earth guy that doesn't put on any airs. While the other coaches are driving luxury sedans, he'll roll up in a pickup truck w/ a tool box in back. His second hire at Auburn was the team Chaplain.

We'll know this weekend if he's Fayetteville bound or not. Paul Feinbaum (sportswriter in Birmingham) said TT was 95% likley to go to AR.

Now the word is that he told them that he's going to Ann Arbor next week to meet with them, not that he already took the job.

I hope Haywood really gets a shot at running his own team. I think he would be a good HC.

Les Miles

Les Miles

Kirk Herbstreit just reported that Les Miles will be named head coach at UM next week... he also said that Miles is bringing John Tenuta, the D coordinator from Georgia Tech. Am i the only one the slightest bit worried about playing Tenuta every year?
