Something that came as a surprise down here in the south was the announcement that Coach Bower at Southern Miss is gone.
Not so surprising was the Ole Miss announcement with Coach "O"......

Bruce Feldman is reporting that Monty Kiffen is very interested in the Nebraska job, and if he were to get it there is a very good chance that Ed Orgeron may follow him there to become the recruiting cord. and associate head coach.

Washington State HC Bill Doba may be out later today. His status will be announced at a presser this evening.

FYI, Doba was my dad's high school football coach.

TAMU made a bad choice. They want with an offensive guy over defense and an NFL guy over a college coach. He'll be gone in 5 years.

Now, what in the heck are schools like GT and Arkansas thinking? Is 8 wins really not enough at Arkansas? It's not like they are Florida. 8 wins is probably what should be expected at Arkansas. Does GT think they are a power? I don't get it.

Arkansas should have more than 8 wins per year. Yes they may not be a huge recruiting school, but they also don't play a tough schedule every year.

Sat, Sep 1 Troy W 46-26 --
Sat, Sep 15 at Alabama L 38-41 --
Sat, Sep 22 (21) Kentucky L 29-42 --
Sat, Sep 29 North Texas W 66-7 --
Sat, Oct 6 Chattanooga W 34-15 --
Sat, Oct 13 (22) Auburn L 7-9 --
Sat, Oct 20 at Mississippi W 44-8 --
Sat, Oct 27 Florida International W 58-10 --
Sat, Nov 3 (23) South Carolina W 48-36 --
Sat, Nov 10 at (22) Tennessee L 13-34 Video
Sat, Nov 17 Mississippi State W 45-31 --
Fri, Nov 23 at (1) LSU W 50-48 --

The teams in bold are who they play every year; not exactly a juggernaut schedule. LSU was the toughest opponent they played and they won! They should have beat Alabama (who played like UCLA this year, knocking off tough teams then losing back-to-back games to Miss St and Louisiana Monroe), and Kentucky. If they would have won those two games, they would be in the SEC title game. Arkansas has one of the easiest SEC schedules year to year. Look at their non-conf schedule.

Arkansas has been to bowl games in 8 of Nutt's 10 seasons. They went to 2 bowl games in the previous 8 years before his arrival.

Nutt was 10-4 last year with all 4 losses coming to teams ranked in the final top 5. SEC coach of the year.

8-4 this year with a win over #1 LSU in Baton Rouge.

Arkansas should think long andc hard before letting this coach go. They may find themselves back in the cellar where they weere before Nutt resurrected the program.

If they were just interested in change and didn't renew his contract, that would be one thing. But if they actually fire him with those results (I'll take your word for it on the W-L's), then they are setting the next coach up for failure.

Remember, though, alot of these coaches get themselves fired for clashing with their bosses or other stupid things like selling secret information to personal booster club members.

I hear he is getting a lot of love from Mississippi. I don't think he will have trouble getting another, and maybe even better, head coaching job.

This will be bad Karma for Arkansas football. Just like forcing Lou out was for ND.

You changed Colorado State to "rumored to be" but i recall reading his resignation or change to a new position is certain:

Lubick and Kowalczyk are planning to attend a news conference Tuesday in which a departure deal, including Lubick's response to Kowalczyk's offer, is expected to be announced.

Wasn't Lou forced out at Arlansas himself? I believe I read this somewhere at one time.

I just put it there for now because nothing's official yet. Bill Doba was fired at WSU, so that's now open too.

I've heard that Steve Spurrier Jr. is one of the canidates for the Duke job and that Tom Osbourne flew to Baton Rouge today to talk to Bo Pelini.

The big rumor swirling around right now it that Steve Spurrier might be headed to LSU if Les Miles gets and takes the Michigan job.

Because it's a different atmosphere than the rest of the country. Not to mention southerners are insane about their foobaw so I imagine the coaches make a decent penny versus comparable programs elsewhere and they also seem to have plenty of 'academic leeway'.

Change Ole Miss - to filled by Houston Nutt

Ole Miss hires former Arkansas coach Houston Nutt - NCAA Football - Yahoo! Sports

Why do SEC coaches just play musical schools? You would think one of them would leave the SEC thinking he could win bigger in a different conf with less competition. At the very least you could avoid the drama of playing your former school.

1. SEC is the best football year in and year out. It's hard going from the best to less than the best. When it be ego or challenge or whatever the case may be.

2. It's a comfort zone. He's played against them and recruited against them. He knows them and they know him.

3. It's usually less of a move. Conferences are usually set up geographically. So going to Ole Miss keeps him in the South East. Less of a move and less of a culture change.

I think with all the head coaches going bye bye, it's an opportunity for ND to select some very good assistants who are likely to be looking also. Perhaps, even a head coach may be looking!!

Coaching changes an opportunity for ND

Coaching changes an opportunity for ND

This is an opportunity for ND to select some very good assistants likely to be displaced because the head coach has either resigned or been fired. The good ones will go fast so we better get an oar in the water NOW.
