So we were #28 going into this week. Its fairly safe to say that we will not be passed by anyone behind us also receiving votes, as the only teams behind us who won a "big game" were 3-2 Arkansas over Auburn and Houston beating Miss State. Houston only won by 7 against a pretty below average Miss State team and Arkansas looked impressive but with two losses probably wont be ranked. In the top 25, there were a few teams that lost who we could jump:

#16 Ole Miss lost to Bama by 19.
#18 Missouri lost to Nebraska by 15.
#19 Auburn lost by 21 to Arkansas.
#25 Wisconsin lost by 18 to OSU.
#23 Georgia Tech is losing by 3 to FSU midway through the 3rd right now.

I think that next week we will be #23 in the Coaches Poll. What do you think?

It will take a measure of great strength for those coaches to put ND in the top25. But after today, I don't think they have a choice.

How is a team ranked 28th, in a poll that only has 25 spots? Sorry, this is a pet peeve of mine. You are either ranked somewhere between 1 and 25, or you are unranked. What did the rest of the "others receiving votes" do?

I think (IF) we beat Usc, then we deserve to be ranked #23. Hows that?

I see your point but its not like all "unranked" teams are grouped together. We're not considered to have the same rank as Duke or Eastern Michigan just because all of us aren't in the top 25. We're #28 in order of votes received.

that would be a pretty awful ranking actually....if anyone has us 23 or below if we beat SC then I would be shocked

Dare to Dream

Dare to Dream

Thinking positive, where will we be ranked when we "BeatSC"? Given some other teams will have losses next week how many other teams will we leapfrog? I'm guessing it will depend on how bad we beat up on SC. I'd like to say we break into the top ten. Why not? This would set up our run of the table for the rest of the season and a 11-1 record. Why shouldn't this get us into the BCS title game and make Beano's prediction of a Florida/ND Urban/CW matchup come true? Our loss was a last second one on the road aided by Big 10 refs etc.

Dare to dream? Michael Floyd would also be back for that game.

Thoughts? I have at least one more week (or more?) to keep this dream alive.

Our victories were also against teams who are a combined 8-15 or something? Also last minute victories. Beating SC means that people like Mark May will say "Well USC is in a down year, it was to be expected."

Frankly you beat SC and you'll break into the Top25 at about 21. Sad thing is, USC with 2 losses would still be ranked ahead of ND.

I was wondering if USC would be ranked ahead of us if we beat them, and I honestly think that there is no way that they could do that. They have good wins over OSU and Cal but if we beat them head-to-head, have the better record, and have the win over Washington, then I just don't see it happening. Best part about that is, no one will drop SC below 15 because they're seen as a powerhouse, so I think that if we did beat them we would be in the 10-15 range.

And I hope for May's sake he doesnt say that cause he argued on Final Verdict last night that USC is the 3rd best team in the country

You are simply not going to jump 10-15 spots in the poll with a victory against USC, and USC being #5 is not going to drop more than 10 spots. USC will be ranked ahead of ND even if ND wins. Only way this doesn't happen is if ND blows them out.

I hope for the sake of the voters that USC isnt above ND. Pretty embrassing if they are. No way a 4-2 team should be ahead of a 5-1 team who beat them, especially considering the Washington situation.

The coaches dont watch the games. USC drops about 5 spots in a loss and we jump about 5 in a win in their poll
