Clock Management Deja vu

The uniforms have changed, the Offensive Coordinator had changed but the clock management remains the same for Willingham teams. Great effort wasted, once again by bumfuzzled clock management. UW 20 USC 26

oh my god! Don't get me wrong, I'm rooting for USC to win out for the meeting with the irish...But that's the worst case of execution I have ever seen. If the refs do the job they are supposed to do I think the clock may run out anyways, but the refs gave Washington almost 30-40 seconds to set up over the ball and run a set play and they still couldn't get it off. Did you see all the lineman and receivers just standing around like there was still 10 seconds left? that was just ugly. For huskie fans, they should be pretty dissapointed in the way that one ended. flat out heartbreaking

I was listening to that one live over CSTV.com, and the Washington announcers couldn't believe it... except they were whining that the refs only put :03 on the clock instead of :06. Give me a break... the refs DISCUSSED the clock for like THIRTY SECONDS! That wasn't enough time for Washington to call a play, line up, and wait for the refs to start the clock so they could snap the ball?

Incredible... {NAME REDACTED} has put together a good turn-around for Washington, and there's no shame in losing a close one to USC... but to lose it THIS way? Yikes.

That was down-right awful. They didn't even need to call a play, just snap the DAMN ball.

That said, I wanted USC to win just because the media would have had a field day if Willingham won (exponentially raising the stakes for the 25th of November) and I want to beat a #1 ranked USC team, giving ND a shot at the title game and....maybe a heisman?

Odds are though, either Michigan or Ohio State will have the #1 ranking.. and USC might not even be undefeated when we play them; I'm under the impression they'll lose to somebody...anybody really, after that performance.

I wanted USC to win because they can help ND rise in the polls. UW and their coach are only rhetoric.

Oh, come on.

I'm surprised by the amount of animus towards Willingham. Did you ever stop to consider how his team was able to really scare USC in the first place? They nearly defeated USC at USC. The way I look at it, that's impressive. His recruiting will only improve and I like his focus on defense.

A better analysis is watching these last two games USC has played and realizing that they're very beatable. Still, every Pac10 team has it out for USC, and they always seem to play close conference games because of that, only to annhilate Nd. We'll see what happens. It's getting pretty interesting, though, and I smell a Nd letdown, perhaps at Air Force.

Yeah they annihilated us last year. It took a push across the end zone to get them a win. Did Michigan not have a game today?

More fecal posting, Victor?

Several people discussed clock mismanagement and the impact of the game on the polls.

No one exhibited animus toward Willingham or anyone else.

Please quote the "animus towards Willingham" above.

Once again you make up statements simply to flame.

While that was bad on Washington's part, it was even worse clock management on the hometown guy that was running the clock, why didn't the clock stop after the first down was made and the play was dead. 3 to 4 seconds went off the clock. Nice break for the home team there.

UW got screwed with the clock. The referee waved his arms to stop the clock at 6 seconds, but the clock kept ticking until it got to 2 seconds. Then, the referee waited for the chain gang to cover the 35 yard pass play and set the chains. However, the clock is not supposed to start until the referee who is over the ball backs up 5 yards and winds his arm indicating the clock should start. That did not happen. Instead, the second the referee was off the ball, the clock began. The referee had not even cleared the 5 yards when the clock hit zeros.

I saw that game since that is what they were showing here in CA. But clearly, its another case of the Pac-10 officials helping out their favorite team.

That's what I saw. Primarily an officials mistake (look for an official rebuke of the PAC-10 crew this week).
But....WU should still have gotten the snap off. Coaching mistake !
And all Ty could be seen doing, after the fact, was trying to keep everyone calm.
What a Yutz !

But they also discussed the clock for way more than the usual amount of time. Washington had more than enough time to huddle, get a play called, and get lined up, and they should've been ready to snap it. No excuses.

I recall Davie having clock management issues and Willingham's teams just being bad.

Saw the end of the game with friends and former teachers over at Moreau Seminary across the lake. Everyone in that room, priests or not, were cheering for UW. Or maybe against SC. But no one was cheering against TW.

Even if they get the ball snapped, he still would have had to get the ball in the end zone. The clock thing sucks, sure, but they still would have had to score.

Cal is going to beat SC. Tennessee is proving how good they are, so Cal's loss is no fluke.

Cal will beat SC.

If tOSU walked into Austin and Iowa City to come away with wins, they aren't losing to scUM at home.

I agree...I watched it on Sportscenter and I believe they should've had at least 4-5 seconds when the center was over the ball to get off at least one snap. With 4-5 seconds, they could've snapped the ball, spiked it, and still had at least 1 second on the clock.

However, it's one of those bittersweet games. I would've been SO BENT if Ty's team beat the Trojans with an inferior team after our teams getting blown out so many years in a row. Didn't want to see USC win either, but I'd rather see Ty get a loss and have the Trojans unbeaten going down the stretch toward the showdown out west later this year.

Davie was absolutely horrible. He didn't know the game was timed, he thought they played innings
