Dude lay off Vandy, they beat BC, remember? They are no longer a pushover in the SEC. Just ask Auburn, Tennessee and Georgia and florida in the last three years.

And Navy beat ND.

The Tree beat USC.

APP ST, Toledo

Did I mention Louisana-Monroe beat Saban's Tide?

Vandy's Program is no where near AUB, UTN, UGA or FL. The Dores are 5-6, 4-8, 5-7, and 7-6 the last 4 years.

They are no longer a pushover in the SEC based on their 3-11 record versus the 4 teams you named over the past 4 years. A .21 winning percentage. An average of 0.75 wins/season is impressive. Hell of an improvement.

I remember when they used to go O for against those guys.

BTW, I had to go back to a 4 years to find a win over UTN. Their only win in the past 3 yeas was Tennessee State. Technically Tennessee, I suppose.

2008 was VU's first winning season since 1982.

All of this is correct. I was just stating that they are no longer "easy" to beat. They still find ways to lose but lately (last 3 or 4 years) they have been quite respectible. They missed beating GA two straight years because of a turneover deep in GA field with little time left.
GA drove it back and scored with time expiring. Florida escaped with a win in a NC year with either a blocked field goal or missed field goal. ( I cant recall exactly). I live in Middle Tennessee. I recall and attended many of their games. I went to high school in the shadows of Vandy. We even played some home football games on their field. I am not a huge fan but I do like their progress.

You think its hard to get into ND try getting admitted to Vandy as a student/athlete.

I never played on Vandy's field nor grew up in near shadow. But I live a mile east of US 31 and about 20 minutes from SEC headquarters for whatever relevancy any of that has to VU's history.

Throughout their football history VU has lost roughly 75% of their games to ALA, UGA, UF, and UTN but amazingly by a score differential of less than 10 points per game. Based on that one could make the statement that VU was never a pushover despite them losing about 70% of their conference games.

Last year they won 7 games. Congratulations, that's the fourth time they accomplished that feat in more than 50 years. I don't think they've ever won 10 games, have they?

The statement that prompted your response was "lest we forget such SEC powerhouses as Vandy, Miss St, and Kentucky" when comparing Clausen's and Stafford's level of competition. Vandy has never even shared a Division Title in the SEC much less won the SEC, have they? I know the other two have but they're not powerhouses either, are they? That was my point.

In '09 Vandy will return to their losing ways, won't they?

They'll open with a win over Div AA Western Carolina (which goes to my intial point the SEC pads their schedule), LSU is an L, Croom's gone at MSST but he did pretty good against VU as I recall, didn't he?, Rice like VU had an up year last season now it's back to reality, probably a VU - W, Ole Miss should be ugly, thank goodness for Army the next week, then it's on to UGA, SCA, GT, UF, UK, and UTN. UK looks like the only hope for a W in that run, doesn't it?. So Vandy is looking like somewhere between a 2 and 5 WIN season. Like I said below, "lest we forget such SEC powerhouses as Vandy ...".

Let's put this another way. ND basher's are chiding ND's '09 schedule as being a pushover. How many teams on ND's '09 schedule would VU rank above?

Nevada
Michigan
MSU
PU
UW
USC
BC
WSU
Navy
PIT
CON
SU

I'm thinking maybe WSU of course WSU doesn't have any Div AA teams on their schedule like VU does. Maybe BC as they've lost the top defender to cancer and their only QB is gone.

The point - even on ND's "easy" '09 schedule VU would be near the bottom of the list.

As for academics I have a little more than the average fan's awareness. I learned
about 10 years ago from an SEC Commissioner that Vandy was one of the few schools along with ND that required 16 cores courses. That Commissioner was VU's Complaince Officer on DiNardo's staff. Things may have changed since then but I was told by that individual that it was comparable to get in to ND. BUT it was tougher to stay in ND as there were fewer academic majors to hide in.

I dont need a history lesson on Vandy. I am well aware of their history. I do know that the comparison academically to ND I cant say for certain and really tend to lean towards Vandy. It is regarded as a premier college. ND ranks high in my book too. My "point" is I dont thin ND could have beaten Vandy last year based on what I saw from both teams. I can recall several years back when they did play at Vandy the final was 14 to 7 Irish, A late TD for the Irish got the victory and they acted like they had just beaten USC. Then the Irish throttled them at South Bend the next year. Does Vandy have a top team? No. They do have a respectable team. I do not think they are going to be bad as you think this year.
