I wish Jimmy the best of luck in the NFL. Even though I think he should stay his last year, I see where he is coming from, and yes him getting his degree early needs to be talked about more.
It was great to have a player like Jimmy, he was the most talked about ND player since...I can't even think of a prior player. The media's (locally and nationally) eyes were always on Jimmy- when he did good and bad. People didn't like his snotty attitude...I did. He was a regular college kid, I hope he enjoyed his time at Notre Dame and I thank him for choosing Notre Dame. I am glad to say that he is apart of the best alumni in the country. Make us proud Jimmy!

ESPN's NFL Rumors page says that word is swirling that the Rams, who have the #1 pick in the draft, are leaning toward taking a QB - in other words, not Suh. This would be really interesting, and it opens up the possibility that Jimmy could go #1 overall with a good combine and interviews... Interesting move by the Rams.

I can see that happening. The Rams drafted Chris Long and Adam Carriker in 2 of the last 3 drafts. They've been waiting to see if Marc Bulger is the guy and it hasn't worked out. So I can definitely see the rams taking Jimmy or Sam Bradford with the first pick. The Redskins will most likely take the one that the Rams don't pick. I'd be pumped either way.

It's been a lock for a while that the Rams would take Clausen as long as they were picking before the Browns and Redskins.

I wouldn't say a lock. The Rams will certainly be looking at QB. These rumors happen all of the time pre draft. We really won't know too much until ND has its pro day, the Rams work him out, and the combine. Don't forget about Sam Bradford. What if he lights it up in his workouts and at the combine?

All that said, I think they take Suh...

If I were picking for the Rams, I would trade down and get something for Suh, who is a very valuable commodity. At worst, they would end up with Bradford and another top 10-15 pick.. I'm a huge JC fan, but they can get Bradford and another of the top DTs on the board, they would be foolish not to do so.

According to ESPN article, Clausen played with two torn ligaments in his toe ever since he went down in the MSU game. Renowned foot specialist Mark Myerson will do the surgery tomorrow morning. He will miss the combine, but will throw for scouts in early April. According to Myerson, "It's a testament to him that he played with this type of injury. How he managed is beyond me. I can only imagine what he'll be like when he's fixed."

This is really a testament to the "guttyness" he showed this season and makes his stock rise higher in my book. Toughness is a trait which is definitely appreciated in the NFL, where starting QBs are expected to play through pain. I think this actually may help him... well, at least, I don't think it will hurt him severely, assuming he throws well for the scouts. More important than my opinion, a league executive reportedly said, "This well help him. The fact that he played through that just shows his toughness and love [for] the game, and more importantly, his commitment to his teammates."

I kinda thought towards the end when he didnt make a good throw he would limp to make it look like he had an excuse, but boy was I wrong i thought he was just another one of those californian qbs(with all due respect to people who live in cali) but obviously hes one tough dude, props to clausen for showing this toughness without complaining all year

...Not quite sure where you are going with this post. I think it's pretty relevant that he won't be at the combine. And I'm pretty sure that a lot of important conversation goes on that legitimately affects the draft, so...

The Rams should trade down with the Bucs and move to number 3. They could still get Clausen and a few more draft picks. It would be perfect for them.

I wonder why he didn't have an MRI before. You would think that the ND doctors, training staff or whatever would catch it.

What makes you think that they didn't catch it? You'd put it past Weis, to call torn ligaments "turf toe"?

I am almost positive that they believed it was turf toe, based on the way Weis joked about it at press conferences. We all know Weis really, really liked Jimmy, but even he slightly poked fun at Jimmy limping around campus. I don't think he would have done that had he known. Jimmy may have asked not to have an MRI, or they may have missed something, based on him wanting a second opinion after the USC doctor looked at it. Don't know, but it's a great question by JunkHead.

The Rams speculation is just that. They have too many over all needs to attend to. maybe Clausen if he drops, but most likely they will build for the future and address QB (Read FA in the short term) after some of the other situations are solidified.

I smell Quinn, part 2 here. Todd McShay has a boner for Sam Bradford. Wouldn't surprise me to see Jimmy fall out of the top-10, or worse. Hoping not, but sure could see it.

McShay is an idiot. Clausen won't drop past 4. Absolutely no chance. He's going number one overall.

im a big rams fan, since the days of lawrence mc cutcheon, cappaletti, and the youngbloods. they better trade down if they intend on taking clausen. they dont need a #1 to get him.

on a side note, many of the oddmakers expect the team that fills the new stadium in LA to be the St. Louis Rams. i would expect playing in LA would appeal to clausen (though that move appears to be several years away).

The furthest they could trade down would be #3 because he won't last past the Redskins.

mike shanahan has intimated that he would not be interested in a QB with their first pick, and unless things fall apart, he will be their coach. im not even that crazy about taking a qb that high in general. the success of highly drafted qb's has been poor for a long time. there are a few exceptions.

This comes as no surprise, we all knew tuff toe was bad but not to this extent, the kid was a stud and if he can grasp the pro game he will be a difference maker, and the scouts know it. Its a shame he didnt come thru Notre Dame when they had a defense and running game. You will see the difference next year when passes arent exactly on target like this guy lasered them in. Criqui said he is a tremendous talent an Don Criqui has been watching a lot of football for 30 yrs.
