No shock there, with the collective bargaining agreement coming, you can expect to see more underclassmen declare this year than any year prior.

I'm not really shocked but I think Jimma knows something. I think were getting someone who runs the "Spread" and that fits more of Crist than Clausen. Good luck Jimmy. Thank you for everything you have done. Too bad he never had a good coaching staff.

yeah the money is right... though I personally don't think he's ready... Jimmy under pressure is a totally different guy and he still tends to just fling it... he'll be seeing more of that in the league... either way good luck to him

Another year at the college level would have done miracles for him, but if he ends up in a place where maybe CW is his OC it might not be that bad of a deal. If he's thrust into a starter role immediately he will fizzle aka BQ because he hasn't seen the kind of speed defenses that you do at the NFL level.

I don't think Jimmy knows something we don't. A new coach would be insane to not adjust his system to fit what Jimmy does.
I think Jimmy knows a bunch of teams picking early need a QB and he is atop some draft boards at the QB position. He is making the right decision and will have a degree in December. Good Luck Jimmy!!!!

The quote from Jimmy that gets me a little in the ESPN article is..."Coach Weis told me whether he was going to be here or not be here, it was time for me to go."

I don't think CW has any malicious intent, and has publically stated that he wants ND to do well, but just makes me think that he would feel better about himself if the next guy didn't have a lot to work with. I worry about Tate and Armando leaving...

Mel Kiper moved JC up to #4 on his big board last week and he is now the #1 QB prospect ahead of Sam Bradford. I'm sure most NFL executives that long for a franchise quarterback consider him a much more polished prospect than BQ was because he's had 3 years in an NFL pro system.

Look on the bright side. How long has it been since we had a player who could contemplate leaving early because they will be such a high draft pick. Best of luck Jimmy.

If Tate is talking as well, he's gone. Otherwise, why have him there? So he can get up after Jimmy and say "now that this guy is gone, I really think I can blossom next year so count me in"

no disrespect to Crist on that comment btw.

Thanks for your time here at ND Jimmy and Golden, good luck in the league. But, I gotta say, Its nice to have talent that can leave early and go in the first round. Like coach Holtz says, "things are never as good at they seem and are never as bad as they seem."

Nothing against the NFL, but this offseason in CFB is going to be horrendous with all the underclassmen jumping ship because of the new collective bargaining thing where there's a rookie salary cap and this year's second round picks will earn more than next year's first rounders. I blame them partially for this and it's part of the reason I dislike the NFL so much.

Not surprised but still sad to hear the news. JC was great here and if only he had a better defense who knows where this team would be. With reduced rookie contracts happening in 2 years, it was the only logical thing to do and I wish him luck in the NFL.

BQ has looked pretty good these past three weeks. he's gonna be a good qb, Clausen will also be a good qb.

it sucks to see him go but its also cool that he will be a top draft pick and we'll get to watch him on sundays.

Rumors now circulating that the new Irish coach is Buddy Ryan, a defensive minded coach that Swarbrick wants.
Ryan immediately said that Clausen and Tate need to go, all they do is score touchdowns.

BQ has looked like he's improving, but my point was that up to this point in his career he is looking more bust then breakout.

BAL L 16-0 13/31 99 yards 41.9% 0 TD 2 INT Rating 23.5
@DET L 38-37 21/33 304 yards 63.6% 4 TD 0 INT Rating 133.1
@CIN L 16-7 15/34 100 yards 44.1% 0 TD 0 INT Rating 51.3
SD L 30-23 25/45 271 yards 55.6% 3 TD 0 INT Rating 95.7

I wouldn't exactly call these earthshattering, especially his completion %. Btw, you don't have to sell me on BQ, I have a Cleveland Browns #10 jersey and I hate all things Cleveland.

If he is actually getting his degree in December, I wish that was being talked about more. The kid obviously applied himself in the classroom too to graduate from Notre Dame in 3 freakin' years!!! That is awesome and I don't think it should be discounted. I wonder how many of the top QB prospects are going to even have their degree conferred after 3, 4, or even 5 years.

Jimmy had to put up with a lot in his 3 short years at ND. The 2007 season alone showed he can overcome adversity and looking at how many times he had to pick himself up off the ground in three seasons shows his toughness. What would his numbers have been if he had not had his turf toe injury this season?

Good luck Jimmy! I truly think you are the embodiment of "leaving it all on the field". Best wishes and I look forward to watching you on Sundays.
