If Chow leaves, I think Carrol will jump ship, too. Chow has been the mastermind behind USC, and Carrol will be exposed without him IMO.

Actually, there have been rumblings for some time now that Carrol wants to replace Chow with one of his own guys. Chow got into a minor spat with some of his coaching staff before the bowl game, and rumor had it that he was looking at the Stanford position because he thought he might be out of work soon.

That may be, but I've heard Carrol is a master motivator and people person, but really weak on Xs and Os. You don't fix what drops over a half 100 on OU... but that may just be me.

I wish only the best for Chow, and only the worst for USC.

I think Carrol is a great X's and O's guy on defense, its just he knows nothing about offense. There was talk about him taking over the 49ers and taking Chow with him. I don't know, I guess we'll see. I don't think that school goes undefeated w/o Chow though, that would be a huge loss.

Totaly Agree and then if Leinart leaves - i think next year USC will be looking at a 8-3, 9-2 season (one loss will be to ND) maybe i should put the 05 National Champs the Irish back on my signature?

Agree...

He can coach the defense, and he's an outstanding recruiter, but the offense is all Chow. I'm amazed the NFL isn't looking at Chow as an OC.

I've heard rumors as well that Carrol doesn't like the attention Chow gets.

What other coordinator in College gets as much praise as Chow? Zero....

THere was talk that Chow may be headed for KENTUCKY to become the head coach when the job was open, but he thought that the NCAA probations were too much for him to be successful as soon as he liked and his family was not to keen on the move from SoCal to the Bluegrass State.

i would assume at this point that he would be staying put for another season, wouldn't he? there aren't any vacancies left anymore, unless he's considering a move to the pro's.

Norm Chow, right, a former N.C. State assistant, helped USC's Matt Leinart, left, win the Heisman Trophy.

Many consider Southern California offensive coordinator Norm Chow the best assistant coach in college football, but that soon could change.
"I could be headed to the next level," Chow said this week. "That may be my next challenge."

Chow has been mentioned as a possible candidate for NFL jobs, including offensive coordinator of the Tennessee Titans. One Web site, gotitans.com , reported that Chow may have been offered as much as $1.5 million a year to go to the Titans -- about three times his reported annual salary at USC.

Chow, who served as N.C. State's offensive coordinator during the 2000 season when the Wolfpack went 8-4 and defeated Minnesota in a bowl game, didn't say which offer might entice him to leave college football. He had hoped to land a head coaching job but recently was rebuffed.

Chow, 58, interviewed for the Stanford job before Southern California ended the 2004 season by smashing Oklahoma in the national championship game. But the Cardinal hired Walt Harris, the coach at the University of Pittsburgh.

"That was disappointing for me," Chow said. "I really thought I could get the Stanford job, but I didn't come close."

Chow has acknowledged turning down only one college head job -- at Kentucky two years ago.

"That's it," he said.

He is considered a master at developing offensive game plans and in adjusting play-calling during the game. He also has been among the best at nurturing quarterbacks.

In his many years as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Brigham Young, Chow coached such stars as Steve Young and Ty Detmer.

At N.C. State, he worked with Philip Rivers in Rivers' freshman season. Since going to Southern California in 2001, Chow has helped Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart win the Heisman Trophy.

As for a head coaching job in college, Chow said, "time may be running out for me."
