I thought that too...but he also could've just been a trash coach. We are talking about a WR room that couldn't get open and make plays with a pretty decent QB.
This. If he was worth keeping, they would have kept him. Not a single WR developed while he was here.

This is basically what Freeman said without saying it outright.

He was just the fall guy for a generally poor offensive season.
I agree on the fall guy part. More often than not that's how this all goes. You peel off someone to satisfy anyone turning the screws. It's like a PR move that buys you time internally and externally. It may very well be that firing Stuckey has nothing to do with any offensive improvement we see next season, but if things remain equal or regress, look out.

Fall guy is BS...did you know this is the first time in SH career he didn't have a receiver go over 500 yards? Guess how many went over 500 last year? 5!!

Being the fall guy doesn’t mean he has to be without fault.

But he is most certainly the fall guy.

Anyone with eyeballs knows the offense as a whole struggled mightily at times. That’s not just a WR coaches fault.

Of course...but to act like he was only fired because ND needed a fall guy is wrong. That's all I'm saying, let's see where he lands and how we'll he does going forward. Also usually a fall guy is a schmuck that would be easily forgotten...so if they picked him to be their fall guy...so be it....but I still don't buy it...I think he was a shitty coach.

I'd say he helped develop receivers. Maybe someone else could've developed them more. Who knows.

Tyree - Made significant improvements through this year

Thomas - Frankly I don't know for sure on this one as I don't have anything to compare him too. The year before Stuckey he didn't play at all. It seems like there must've been significant development.

Lenzy - Thought he looked significantly better than he had up to his last year. Like the light bulb finally went on. Stats didn't necessarily reflect it, but we didn't have a QB to get him the ball.

Freshman seemed ready to play

Styles - Regressed
Merriweather - never developed

I'm certainly OK with saying he should've been able to have better results in development. But to say not a single WR developed seems a bit extreme.

Tyree and Flores were the only ones to play in all 12 games. A converted RB and a true freshman.

Countless injuries and true freshmen in the room. Did the 5 or 6 blowouts help matters any in terms of running up passing stats?

We've been over this time and again. There were circumstances Stuckey walked into and then there were the things he had direct control over with regards to how he approached his job. Hold him accountable for the things he needs to be held accountable for, but FFS, there were moving parts within the offense week to week had couldn't control.

There were things going on and it was enough to make him the fall guy. Two things being true at once. It happens, despite common belief.

Is there also the possibility Stuckey was or became early on the passing game coordinator.

As you and everyone knows, this isn't just about WR development. The passing game concepts and schemes were terrible at times, vs good teams especially.

This also isn't letting parker and play calling off the hook as that was awful too.

I just wonder if there's more to this than just WR development with stuckey.

My thoughts too. Everyone liked stuckey because he replaced Del, was a pretty good recruiter, and by most accounts a charismatic guy. At the end of the day, his position group was one of the worst we’ve seen and didn’t appear to be very well coached. Rather than A) risk another year of poor passing offense due in large part to a horrible receiving room or B) hiring a third OC in as many years, Freeman cut stuckey loose in favor of a guy that he knows can develop an inexperienced room while also aggressively pursuing the portal

Maybe they had to dumb down the offense after receivers went down and playing freshman and walk on who were barely getting snaps and maybe that's why towards the end of the year it looked better

Wonder if it has to do with players and the hamstring stuff and all the injuries?? Like he forced them to play or something
