How did I do Lyght?seIRISH said:I am sure I am in the minroity here but I think a playoff would ruin the game.I think the bcs needs to be fixed by going back to stregth of schedule.Their is nothing better then having to go undefeated or one loss to win it all.I don't want it to become like the pros where some two or three loss team wins it all.I think the poll add to the excitement. They are flawed and needed to maybe be handed to the people that watch the game rather then coaches shilling for their own team or conferance. You have to remember if you want sixteen games watch the pro's. This just in Pete Carroll has decided to rest all of his starters for the playoffs. Com on now!!!!!!!!!!!! If you play a tough schedule you deserve to get to the big game.Somtimes the right choice is not always the most popular. How did I do Lyght?
Rip,do you agree some of it has to come from stregth of schedule. You would be getting some of these good games thoughout the year instead of just at the end.We would not have to wonder if Utah was the real deal because we would have seen it thoughout the year. The reason I have always respected ND is because they have always played a tough schedule.Rip Rap said:Everything was fine before the BCS was created. We've had as many split titles since then and-well-that doesn't bother me. If anything, I would rather they just declare co-champions every year. Same with the games themselves-tying was fine. Two great teams play each other and it comes to a tie? Fine.
But playoffs will ruin the game. IAA playoffs expanded to more and more teams as schools bitched about missing out. Now the playoffs consume IAA and are exploitive of the players who...and here comes the novel concept...should be STUDENTS with exams and such.
College football is NOT the minor league. And the Rose Bowl should be Pac10/Big10, and the Cotton Bowl should be some school from Texas vs. Notre Dame. Good traditions are always good. Let the polls decide like they always have.
Righto...but how about this year...4 champs??????Rip Rap said:Everything was fine before the BCS was created. We've had as many split titles since then and-well-that doesn't bother me. Yeah but then how do you rank the conference.Does everyone get a bid from each one.The pac holds more weight then the mac.then what do you do if you have two good teams in one conference. If a mac team wins it with three losses all hell will break lose.irishtexan said:college wont have to play 16 games like the pros, come on now. they can do it just like they have it now, and the teams with the best conference records advance. and so what if they go to the playoffs with losing 3 or 4 games, if they did awesome in their conference then they deserve a shot. if there was a playoff system and nd didnt get to go because they lost 3 games then i bet all hell would break loose. i would like to see the ncaa try it for a year so we fans can compare the two and then choose what we like best, but that will never happen. there are high schools here in texas that play 11 games in a season and then go to the playoffs, and then play 4 or sometimes 5 more games, and they finish before christmas, so i think it could be done.
also the automatic bids are what caused the problems this year.SEE UTAHseIRISH said:Yeah but then how do you rank the conference.Does everyone get a bid from each one.The pac holds more weight then the mac.then what do you do if you have two good teams in one conference. If a mac team wins it with three losses all hell will break lose.also the automatic bids are what caused the problems this year.SEE UTAH

seIRISH said:I am not saying the BCS is perfect.I even tend to lean towords the old way.But the problem is the people. You are still going to have people decide the seeding. At least with the BCS their is a formula.I think stregth of schedule and a formula everyone can figure out is the way to go.The real problem to this program is the preseason poll. You have teams that are ranked based on last year and have to be leaped frog by other teams when nothing has been proven on the field yet.I know the bcs comes out in october but it still takes it's major stat from average poll ranking.![]()
No then we would have a SuperBowl Champion.NDLyght37 said:I have been in favor of a 16-team tournament for about the last 5 years.
First, make it mandatory that every conference has a championship game. Then you take the 11 conference champs and throw in 5 "at-large" teams. This may sound like a lot of games...but it's actually fewer bowls than we have now. Right now I think ESPN said there are 27 bowl games. In this playoff syatem, we'd only have 13 ball games...and we'd have a true National Champion.
I think now you have a group of teams that deserve a shot and that somthing could be done to see those teams play.Maybe a plus one.But I think a playoff opens it up more to teams that do not deserve to be there.True, there would be a few "garbage" teams in there...but you could also seed the conferences so that the WAC Champ doesn't pull as much weight as the ACC Champ, and so on.seIRISH said:No then we would have a SuperBowl Champion.I think now you have a group of teams that deserve a shot and that somthing could be done to see those teams play.Maybe a plus one.But I think a playoff opens it up more to teams that do not deserve to be there.
