MOD EDIT: Since Jer was kind enough to get this week's game discussion started, we'll make this the Week 3 discussion thread.

Jeremy ND07: OK...I know Rutgers will be down this year but NC looked VERY good last night!!!! I really see this game as a lose even mote after watching them play! Is Brandon Tate related too Golden Tate because they looked a lot alike?

I watched most of the game and I too was impressed with their playing, but more importantly with their enthusiasm. The fact that they have a lot of younger players and played so well this early in the season doesn't bode well for the Irish going to NC to play the game a month from now.

How can other coaches get so much out of their younger players. We don't expect the same? We have had 2 GREAT recruiting classes in a row and we say they aren't ready. I don't think we can handle North Carolina either. Its sad though. GO IRISH !!!

guys lets take it one game at a time! you will see a different irish team this week than you did last week and by the time we go to carolina we will definately have some wins and confidence under our belt. Nc will be a good game tho.

I'm a Heels fan as well as a Domer. They sucked the first game just like ND, but still eeked out a "W". The coaching staff worked them pretty hard as a result and the team responded. Let's wait until after the Michigan game until we start commenting on talent and getting the most out of it. I think ND will come out fired up as a result of all the criticism they've received stemming from the SDSU game. I also believe they'll win Saturday. Anyway, UNC will be a tough out at home this year. Rutgers defense was pretty bad though. Their QB was even worse.

I really think that game was more a reflection of exactly how steaming-pile-of-monkey-poo BAD Rutgers is as opposed to how good UNC is. Rutgers is bad.....REALLY bad.

I think we can draw some important parallels to our team here. North Carolina came out last week and played awful against a DII school(almost lost). Came back out for week two and put it together, played with passion and intensity and got the job done!! I don't see why we couldn't

I agree the teams have very similar situtations (ND & NC)....if we can come out looking like they did after last week I would be VERY happy!!!!!!!

On the one hand I agree with you, and I too after last week wondered how other young teams can be dominant in some games and it seemed like ND scraped out a win last week.

However, regardless of how strong/legitmate that argument is, it doesn't change what happens with the Irish on Saturdays. So I've resolved to not compare them with other teams, young or otherwise, and just plan on cheering for the Irish to win each game at a time starting with this Saturday. (not saying you have to stop, just encouraging you because my heartburn, headaches and stress went way down when I did that.)

The one dynamic that I feel many Irish fans are not grasping is that in the "typical" situation, the young talent is joining a team full of top-notch veterans. The young talent has to be exceptional just to get on the field. In the process, this young talent has a chance to learn from veterans on what it takes to win. By the time they are sophomores and juniors, they are seasoned vets. ND does not exemplify the "typical" situation. The young guns were forced to come in last year, compete for starting roles (which is bad) and produce against grown men. We didn't have alot of top notch vets on the team last year. We just had a few. It just didn't happen and they were pounded repeatedly. This young team is in a situation now where they have to learn how to win ballgames. How you can lose so badly one year and then be expected to blowout any opponent in the 1st game is beyond me. It's just unrealistic. That's why I believe we'll get a much clearer picture after this game. They need to win this game. They must win this game.

was yates there the last time we played nc?

Not sure. There was another guy though. I can't remember his name, but I know he was awful. Yet our defense still couldn't stop him. Of course, that year they couldn't stop anybody.

I hope we hit Greg Little so hard each time he carries the ball that he gets snot bubbles! Charlie will remember Greg spurning us on national signing day 2 years ago and will have the team looking for his number all day.

Thats one of things about youth, one week there up and the next week there down, I feel like we have more talent than NC. Wins are big early in the year and the confidence grows. NC will lose their share and show some inconsistency here and there. The fans are awful in Chapel Hill, but we'll go in there and pull out the win.

(since Jeremy was kind enough to get the week 3 discussion going with the UNC/Rutgers game, we'll consider this that thread.)

Kansas and USF are playing one heck of a game.

USF's kicker just put a FG inside the upright by the width of the threads on the ball for the Win. 37-34.

Incredible game.
