I spoke recently with the parent of one of the current players who's always relayed good, specific info in the past about the team; Board Ops knows of whom I speak and can confirm this person's reliability. The most interesting and concrete piece of info was indeed that Cierre Wood has been moved to defensive back. I can't divulge how the person knows, but the move is definite. So the depth chart at RB seems to be Allen a clear #1, and then some mix of Hughes and Gray behind that; given Kelly's effusive praise of Roberson, I wouldn't be surprised if he gets chance to sneak into the #2 spot or at least some kind of platoon.

Other news from the son is that the team considers the difference between the prior regime and Kelly as 'night and day,' that things are more 'professional,' that there's a much better level of morale and sense of trust in the locker room, that everyone's chomping at the bit to get on the field, that Kelly has been more visible to all team members, and - significantly - that he doesn't know of anybody thinking about transferring. I think most of us have felt from the outside that Kelly has been more head-coach-ish than Charlie since his hiring, but it's nice to have confirmation from the inside. Very encouraging that the team is on the love affair with him, too; at the very least it gives us a better chance of success come fall.

EDIT: Thanks SEE, JVan, and others for your help in the vetting process.

Cierre Wood could end up starting he is a beast a little disapointing to see both of them leave running back but Cierre is a very talented player and will see his way onto the field.

I'm not sure on this, it could be true no doubt but i thought the move to wr for riddick was coincedental with getting wood more touches at rb. I mean the move to wr for riddick could have nothing to do with it but i was under the impression it did.

Yeah, I am not saying that I doubt the honesty of the poster on NDNation, but I am playing a little bit of a wait and see game. Especially because my friend, who is a DB, has not heard about it as of yet. I know that there are people on other sites who are unsure if that ndnation post is entirely accurate as well. Again, it is probably true, but I'm going to wait and see for myself.

I do not like the move of Cierre. Riddick is now a RB and Jonas is questionable with his academic issues. That means that next year we can realistically have a dpeth chart of just Cameron Roberson.

Riddick is now a slot receiver so they can get the best athletes on the field and overwhelm the defense with speed. Rocket was a slot receiver and was used primarily on RB plays. He got tossed the ball in the backfield and made like an RB.

If needed at RB, Riddick will line up there. This is Spring Practice it's the place to try guys at new positions to see if they can adjust.

Davie and Tony Driver took two years to face reality and move Tony from TB to Safety where he excelled. Riddick (who beat out Wood last year for RB) is an exciting back but Jeff Burris had a better HS career and became an All-American DB under Holtz. Burris was also the "Go To Guy" in Holtz Full House Backfield despite having a stable of RBs that would start ahead of anyone on this team. Wood could find his niche here.

Again, smart move by Kelly and Diaco to bolster the area which needs the most help - now. IF Harrison Smith grasps the defensive scheme and McCarthy the Younger is ready, Wood may not be needed. Then again depth is still a question. Having Wood work there now can go a long way to determining the Secondary 2 Deep.

"Realisically", Roberson would be the only back in '11, really?

Not remotely.

Regardless of where they play in '10 they could still move back to the backfield in '11 if needed. Holtz moved Autry Denson to CB as a freshman then moved him back to RB where Denson became the All-Time Rushing Leader.

And count on Kelly tracking any keep player's academics as part of the depth chart equation. Thet bridge would be crossed when necessary, if it ever presented itself.

So Kelly's presser discussing position changes only mentioned Wood staying at RB and trying to find ways to get him on the field as quickly as possible.
