With the battle these two teams have gone through tonight yes...because as was noted it was the coaches fault not the players so therefore its a coaching error.

DJ doesn't suck. He set a ND All-Time place kicking record this season. If you knew any ND football history you'd be aware he's one of the most successful kickers ND's had.

I know more ND history then 95% on this board, ask ACCIrish. If Florida States kicker sucks and Penn States then so does ND's. You were the one that said it not me. FSU's kicker was one of the best in their schools history and PSU's is a freshman.

I hate to say it too but he did in the last two games of his 5th year season.

But he didn't miss until after the leg injury, did he ACCIrish?

And he still doesn't suck even if he wasn't injured.

He set the ND ALL-Time record for most XP this year. He was 52-54. He's 3rd on the ALL-Time List for Kicking Points in a Season. And in the Top 10 All-Time Career Scorers

Hentrich, Reeve, Hempel, Carney, Setta, Johnson, Thomas, and Fitzpatrick among others all missed XPs. By the logic in this thread they must suck too even though some made All-Pro and had Kicking Schools.


BTW, do either of you know how highly recruited Fitzpatrick was?

He wasn't.

He was a walk-on All-State punter that earned a scholarship and served UND with distinction.

And I'm going to shoot myself if I have to hear one more time about how great a person Bobby Bowden is. What makes this guy such a great person? Take a look at the rap sheet for the last 15 years. Who the hell graduates at that school in regards to football? The star linebacker was suspended for sexual assault accusations. He's a great man, great coach, blah blah blah.

The old man grandpa "dadgum" hillbilly crap has completely worn off. Add parity, three good teams to the conference and subtract Mark Richt and Chuck Amato and this program is just like everyone else these days.

I will not enter the discussion about Bowden being a "great man" because I only know him as a football coach and nothing else.

He has suceeded in that area because he recruited the top talent in Florida and when needed he went out of the state for players. He recruited SPEED,SPEED,SPEED because that is the only thing he could not teach. He is no better a coach than 20 other Div 1 coaches who could have the same success with the talent he has gotten.

There were years when I thought it was a requirement to have at least 3 misdemeanors on your rap sheet in order to make first string at either FSU or Miami. But who cares about that? Does the media? Absolutely not!

Bowden understands that as well as anyone and he does not let that stand in the way of a good player. As a matter of fact the prevailing opinion is "these disadvantaged youths should be given a chance" because after all WE are the ones who caused their problems.

Sorry to bore you with philosophical outlays but the bottom line is that ALL football coaches know that winning is everything. Perhaps Bowden got that earlier than some--Willingham, for instance.

I never said he was a bad kicker just disappointing to see him miss those kicks towards the end of his career and i believe kmac said that they were all bad kickers during the bcs games which is correct because you dont miss kicks in a bowl game and so obviously they had bad games

First off I know all that but what I was refering to is that you were bashing the kickers for Penn State and Florida State last night, if you are going to bash their play then in turn you must look at DJ's play. DJ was a solid PAT and FG kicker for his entire career but was terrible on kickoffs...I think Florida States kicker last night had more touchbacks last night then ND had all season. The fact is over the past two games he was subpar. And yes you are correct he was one of the elite kickers in ND history but is far from the best, I can think of at least 5 kickers better then him right off the top of my head, hes a good kicker but by far not the god you are making him out to be. I don't care if your whole purpose is to attack me and the funny thing is your a mod. How about you study some of jigga's posts.

ND would beat FSU bc ND's defense gets exposed by multidimensional QB's which Weatherford certainly is not. However, PSU would be a problem bc they do have a difficult handle QB threat.

As far as anyone making ND's offense look silly, you must have watched a different game. OSU was very good. AJ Hawk was exceptional. But ND had 5 unforced dropped passes that hurt. ANd scored 3 TD's. Execution was the primary issue.

As far as OSU offense making ND Defense look silly -- that one i will agree with you on.

I got a kick when Bobby-Boy compared himself to Joe Pa in 'values, integrity, trust, motherhood and apple pie etc." Joe must have been cringing. Bobby-Boy is a very slick sales men who would sell his soul to the devil (remember Randy Moss) to win a NC or any ball game.

The missed extra point against Ohio State turned out not hurting the Irish. The one against Stanford could have been a disaster.

To me, missing extra points is unacceptable. Things happen, yes. Snap, hold, kick.

Fitzpatrick was 52-54 for the year, missing one in each of the last two games. I still think he might be hurt.
