I like all the moves. Sounds like BK wanted coaches to be on the same page and he believes he has that now.

With the way Kelly is recruiting, a mixed of a stanford (using 2 TEs frequently) and oregon (bunch of slot receivers and multiple backs) type offense looks to be the best solution.

I mean, I think it is logical to change things up from what we did last year because of our personnel base. Look at the speed players we have on offense (dont forget, we could add Neal) The only players that dont seem to fit this mold is Ferguson (possession receiver) and DD (our deep threat). Most of the other WRs are slot type of guys and we have a bunch of athletes who can play RB/slot. It makes sense to move toward an Oregon type of offense, then mix it up with 2 TE sets.

What I'm gathering is that Kelly wants a "yes" man in the booth??

No. A functioning part of the executive committe.

^ this.

the fact that you guys think chuck martin is a "yes" man is hysterical. he was one of the only ones to challenge kelly the past couple years. kelly has even said, having chuck on the sidelines is like having another head coach, which, it is.

he never jumped ship from GVSU to go with kelly to a higher paying job at either CMU or cincy. which, according to kelly, CM was his first call at both. he probably could have been named a cood. already.

their offenses are scarily similar and this is probably the best move that nd has made this year.

This will show my football ignorance but its a place to learn.
What exactly do the interns and graduate assistants do for the team?

(gotta run to work so I'll read when I come home. Thanks in advance.)

I don't want to read too much into everything said or even into the coaching changes, I think particularly with the quaterback situation being in flux, everyone, maybe even CBK is going to need to see how guys respond and what shakes out in the spring. BUT I am very excited about the infusion of new talent in Coach Booker and the experience and new energy of Coaces Hiestand and Elliott.

Exactly. There is a big difference between wanting a "yes man" and wanting a guy that you believe fully understands and fully capable of implementing your scheme.

Kelly downplayed the "I want a guy that can challenge me" storyline because it was created by the fans. He is not hiring Martin because he is having doubts about his offense, he isn't. He thinks he can win with that offense, though he does not think it was run very well last year. But, like Umphreak said, Martin is not going to be a "yes man."

You guys don't understand the difference between dynamic teamwork and conflict. Martin expresses himself as an effective part of the management team, adding dynamically; Molnar was in a position of opposition, causing discord, diluting the effectiveness of the team. This yes man, no man stuff is uninformed bull ****.

This is actually a great question. The grunt work coaching, depending on the grad/interns level of efficiency, or abilities. Mostly, they just do it for free, for grad school, experience on their resume, or like Scott Booker, a future paid position. Having D. Grimes is fantastic!
